"He struggled for chances last year, playing mostly in Sandringham's reserves, for whom he kicked 52 goals, including 12 in an afternoon. Tall and rangy, he made his debut four weeks ago against Essendon. He had already kicked a goal yesterday, from a free kick earned against Glenn Archer, definitively the hard way.

Newton, fired with youthful zeal, was not prepared to leave it at that. Frequently, he dashed forward, wanting a part. Without the least sense of subordination, he waved his arms to direct older teammates to pick up Kangaroos opponents. From his vantage point, it would all have been so clear."

Believe it or not, this kid couldnt get a game ahead of Brad Miller

Its clear that Daniher had something against a couple of players. Hopefully now with a new coach on the way we can stop some of the old fave's getting special treatment.

I remember when Newton was drafted there were rumors going around about his attitude.

There was some story about how he took a mark and the siren went and he made his opponent stand on the mark and umpires stay on the ground while he had a shot. but he was in the back half of the ground.

Interesting him directing players around. He was drafted to replace Neitz and it looks like he is spot on the money. Another great job by CC.

That's just a bit rude Y_M, and i'm going to issue a title change.

For the record, it was Danners who drove into Juice the need for balls of steel. He was always going to get a run this year, it was a matter of when Juice 'got it'.

And where are Colin Garlands balls of steel? Wait no, forget the kid Garland.. where are Bruce, Johnstones and Yzes balls of steel?

Food for thought

For all the discussion about his mental immaturarity I just don't see it. Since he got a game he hasn't once shown anything that he was accused of, but the stupid thing is that if all those comments were actually true then it would have taken alot more than a couple of games at Sandy to sort out.

Garland has only just taken up the sport, out of everyone on our list he needs game time with Sandy the most, why he was picked earlier in the year is an absolute mystery.

These aren't isolated incidents, questions has to be asked about Bode and Neaves as well.

Newton is in his 3rd year at the Club and his development has been more than a couple of games at Sandy. He has always had the ability but had not always had the application nor the belief required to fulfil it. His showing in his first MFC games reflects the benefits of having the education he has had.

I think his development could have been much better and much quicker but there is no way either one of us can prove who is right, however there are other examples that I've already mentioned that backs my theory.

From what I have seen of Newton I dont think he fits that theory.

I see that Bode made the best players for Sandy this week. Maybe that is a watershed moment for his career.

He's been playing well for the last month, or more.

Is it too late to play rookies?

Wouldn't mind giving him a couple of games, now that the season is well and truly and over.

The kid has a long way to go to be a good AFL player on todays performance. Not quite a "champion" yet as some on these forums were suggesting.!

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
