TRAINING: Thursday 19th March 2026

Featured Replies

Main training is at Gosch’s this morning. I was just told there’s every chance they’ll be out on the park earlier than the advertised time of 10:15am. This isn’t definite, though. But if you’re heading to Gosch’s it might be wise to get there earlier than planned.

The boys are out here now.

I’m in my element! Luker is here and he said he’ll be be right for Casey round two which is a bye for Casey so it’ll have to be the following week. We had a long chat about what the club expects of him. Geez we have a great club.

Bowser has been told he’s looking good for round 7. His post-goal song is Sexyback so it’s a good thing he’s a defender. 😁

Big Moose is not going to Perth

Matty Scarlett is here, as is Tom Couch. All coaches are here, Nick the welfare guy, all the physios, the media, couple of Board Members, everyone is here. The vibe is awesome. Not many spectators but quality over quantity amirite?! 😎

Another setback for Shane. The weekend before last he strained his calf muscle in a match sim. He’s so disappointed, he’d already kicked two goals and taken a screamer over CJ and was feeling really good.

Luker going down in Ballarat is even more of a disappointment considering he was told he’d be debuting in round one 😕 But in typical Luker style it’s water off a duck’s back. Nothing brings him down.

AMW is moving and running really well.

I was chatting with an American guy and his 17yo son who are in Australia for two weeks (Spring Break). Turns out he’s a recently retired NFL coach, The Patriots being one of the teams he coached. And now he’s a Demons fan ❤️💙

Today. After lunch.

Bowser just got a round of applause from training staff as he ran past on the boundary. He looks so pleased.

Jeffo also running laps. He said he’s looking at another two weeks and that they’re pleased with his progress.

Langdon leaving training early after running laps. He was in the drills earlier. Suspect he has felt something is not right.

I saw him receiving treatment on his foot, possibly a toe.

Hendo’s sacrum is no longer a problem, totally healed. But the groin thing is back again, although not too bad. He played half a game last week and he’s playing this Saturday (Casey). He’s wearing a mouthguard because “train as you play” but that reason is secondary to “I’ve had teeth knocked out in the past and it’s not nice.”

Incidentally, Hendo’s a great guy and gives his all. I really hope he goes well because he’s working hard for it.

Bill Belichick a Dees fan. Oh my days

I attended some of this training session. Tom Campbell is now out of the neck brace, and doing training in the rehab group. AJ is also training in rehab group. Only saw Ed Langdon running laps. Bowey is looking good in the rehab group. It was good to see the match sim involved quick movement of the ball. Also had the great pleasure of talking to my my great friend the wonderful Ghostwriter.

Curious who he would have played over.

Langdon would have to be in doubt for the weekend.

Maybe AMW to HB and Lindsay to wing...

Looking at the match report for Casey last week, few things to note

  • It was a special moment for Moniz-Wakefield, who took to the field for his first match after an extended stint on the sidelines following an ACL injury sustained in February 2025. To the delight of all Demons fans, he was able to complete the hit-out unscathed.

  • Bailey Laurie moved well between the midfield and forward line, finishing with three goals and proving to be an important connection piece in attack.

  • Xavier Taylor was influential across half-back and pushed forward late, capping off his performance by kicking the final goal of the match

Given AMW probably still rusty perhaps the other 2 would be ahead of him in some capacity.

Nah. If it’s spring break he’s more likely to be in Cancun with his 17 year old girlfriend.

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
