PRESEASON TRAINING: Thursday 26th February 2026

Featured Replies

Brace yourselves, guys. You’re not gonna like this… there are soccer balls galore out here.

JK. There are soccer balls but it’s Victory’s training that I’m watching. I forgot about the 11am start and got here before 10:00

Speaking of training, next week we will be at Gosch’s on Monday, Casey on Tuesday and Thursday and Saturday and Gosch’s on Monday. Hadda say this before I forget 😅

Spoke too soon…

I attended this training session. I was pleased to see that they were mainly using Afl balls. I spoke to Christian Salem, and wished him good luck for the season. Also said I want to see a premiership in Melbourne. Also had the great pleasure of talking to my great friend the wonderful Ghostwriter.

was about to head down but have been told it's all over. was it a shorter sessionthan usual? Just a captain's run?

Quick Captain's Run - the 26 there were:

  1. JVR

  2. Salem

  3. Langford

  4. Lindsay

  5. Windsor

    1. Lever

    2. Steele

    3. Turner

    4. Gawn

    5. Tholstrup

      1. Jiath

      2. Langdon

      3. Laurie

        1. Taylor

        2. Matthews

          1. Howes

            1. Rivers

            1. TMac

              1. Sharp

              2. Fritsch

              3. Sparrow

              4. l. Pickett

                1. Petty

                2. K. Pickett

                3. Chandler

                  1. Kentfield

For the Community matches 26 is the stipulated number, so (if this is the starting 26) interesting to note -

No Heath or Jefferson (Mihocek in protocols).

Matthews gets a run and Petty is back.

Still no AMW. Word from F&T is that Bowser's rehab is going very well.....

23 minutes from walking across from AAMI to walking back. S&Gs are back in fashion

Hey @cam.noble1 Leb’s boots are New Balance Tekela. He said they’re no longer available in fluoro but there’s a hot pink pair coming out shortly and he’s gonna be getting a pair. He said they stand out just as much as the yellow ones.

did all players attend? think it’s a squad of 26 we are allowed?

We’re thinking the players who participated today are the squad selected for tomorrow.

Surprised Kozi was selected.. surely he’s game ready without a pointless match tomorrow

Disappointed no Heath. He looked great last week, so hopefully it's a rest next week and not another example of not being able to play 2 bonafide ruckmen

Max will ruck 80% of the time so it's really only the other 20% you need worry about. Heath was very good at centre bounces against NM but just ordinary around the ground and at boundary throw ins. Kentfield offers so much more around the ground and is a genuine threat up forward. I think Kentfield is quite capable of neutralising most rucks. The overall impact of Kentfield is more than Heath so he's my first choice. And when he isn't rucking he rotates with JVR and Mihocek as a genuine forward threat. Heath can't do that and will only get perhaps 40% game time. Kentfield will get 70%.

Kentfield for me.

Am I the only one wondering why hot pink is not considered to be fluoro?

I found out who decides what’s on the agenda in a captain’s run. As our property manager said… “Max is the last person who’d get to decide.” Wheels said it’s 100% the coaches’ decision. I hope we’re not gonna drag Kingy over the coals for this, as was the case with Goody 🙁

Got there 30 mins early and the place was deserted. Then I spotted Ghosty chewing the ear off a random dog walker, so all good.

The players drift over and I am always interested who walks over with who. Today, TMc with Kolt, Kossie with CJ and Trelly not far behind, Salem with Fritta. Salem I'm told should change his name to Raymond, as in everybody loves....

Kingy has a heavy ponderous gait. King had a casual chat with Sparrow before proceedings kicked off. Richo and lamb watching on.

A low barrier was set up to kick/head butt soccer balls over. This was high spirited and lasted 10 minutes maximum.

Then some practised quick accurate ball movement whilst others had shots on goal. 15 minutes max. Luker in the mask.

Tom Matthews is the right height to be put in a casual head lock.

I was advised earlier in the day that Bowey is making excellent progress and hopefully back earlier than expected. One of the reasons for this is that he is small of stature compared to most other footballers.

No Jeffo or Moose.

Not many track watchers.

Afl ball is the football used during Afl games.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
