Jemma Rigoni has gone to Collingwood.

I thought she might have developed really well with us next year. Bugger

How is this even possible when the trade period has closed??

I can only assume it happened very late and has just been announced a few days post?

Draftees also get 2-year contracts now, so for us to take 2 tonight (minimum amount AFL allow) we had to have 1 more list change.

Reading between the lines this seems to be a delisting with a promise by Collingwood to list at the next opportunity. Perhaps they can add her in the draft tonight?

Really disappointed. I thought she gave us something when she played and had the attributes to develop really well. Speed, good skills, good tackler and won most one on one battles for the ground ball that I saw.

Have a bad feeling on this one that it may come back to bite us big time. Hope I’m wrong.

Must have been told she would be delisted and to find another home.

Any inside info, anyone?

The Austin and Horisk 'ins' appear to be positive, but I'm a bit paranoid, what with the other 'outs' as well, in the context of Mick's departure and no replacement (or even a 'process'?) confirmed.

I think this is a question for the AGM if anyone is going...they wouldn't be waiting on the mens appointment to happen until after the trade & draft period.

From the outside it looks very average.

Would be tough! Adelaide had a full year to know they needed to appoint a coach - clearly Geelong had a plan. Other clubs still havent appointed a coach and their season ended much before ours.

Think id rather them take their time then rush into an appointment just so they had a coach for trade and draft? Season finished November 22 and Mick announced he was leaving on 24th. Trade was 10 days later, that would be a ridiculously quick turn around for such an important role.

There's been no word of a coaching sub-committee or any movement at all.

At least you would have something happening by now....

And I really doubt that this was a completely snap decision by Mick on November 24. It was clear (albeit in retrospect) that the possibility was there well before that. I don't expect them to announce a coach without undertaking a full process, but I would expect that SOMETHING about that process be communicated at this point.

Hoping we're not asleep at the wheel here (i.e., that the club's standards for AFLW have gone out the door with Mick), but rather it's just under-resourced at this time of year on the communications side?

PJ was very strong on the AFLW side of things and I fear it's incrementally slipped with each person that's moved on.

First him, then Daisy and now Mick.

I really hope I'm wrong here.

edit: we've got a great group & they need full support.

Yes, hopefully not the case.

If anyone here's able to attend the AGM (unfortunately I cannot), I hope someone puts forward some questions that might get us a better picture of where things are at.

I sent an email to Paul Guerra before the prelim against North expressing my disappointment at the lack of promotion and support for the women's team.

I pointed out that I thought the comms and social media was excellent for those following the W's social pages but that very little was being done to get the broader club behind this team throughout the finals campaign

I never received a reply.

I totally get the timeframes are too tight and we can't rush the next coach but surely the club should have been working on succession

Can't the list management team from the men's group work in and support the women's team right now?

Maybe it's all happening behind closed doors but the lack of communication of what's going on and strange delistings of some pretty good players is on the nose.

You could see from the in-house footage from the Adelaide final "things will not be the same next year" being repeated a couple of times. It was on the cards and it seems like we're adrift.

I wonder how well the players are being kept informed right now?

That worries me.

I've been a supporter all my life and getting close to 20 years continuous membership for the club.

I'm considering not renewing for next year. It feels like something is nqr.

And yes it was great to see so many of the men's team turn up for the prelim but we were evidently outnumbered about 7 to 1 supporter wise.

and yes this is a fantastic group that deserves this club's full support.

Some highlights to get us in the mood for more newbies joining the club tonight!

Very disappointing, Brownie.

Training is evidently a great opportunity to engage with Club folks, for those comfortable to do so. @Ghostwriter, or one of the other track watchers: post the AGM, if there's nothing clear from it, could you ask Paul or anyone else with relevant authority, at training, what's going on with the Club and its women's program?

Thanks Timothy, I'm up in northern NSW, so it's a bit of a commute!

Really appreciate those that are closer to the action for all of their Intel and insights.

Coverage of the draft is poor unless you have fox footy. No draft tracker online or running video commentary like they had for the boys.

Just a slow updating draft blog.

Edited. Slightly better coverage happening on the fly

#1 Rich - Olivia Wolmarans

#2 GWS - Scarlett Johnson

#3 GWS -

try here... it's not great (the tracker for instance lists the pick #, the player chosen...but not the club selecting them)

Thanks, couldn't find that at all.

Edit: think that link was loaded in late. Definitely wasn't there 20minutes ago as I spent a good chunk of time searching through every tab I could find.

Still poor they can't add the clubs next to the name of the drafted players.

Edit: they have now added the club name next to the players names

I think it's lip service the the AFLW team.

If it was the ment heyd make big announcements about what we were doing to secure the next coach, we'd have socials about the list management and drsft tonight etc.

I understand budget isn't as high for the women's program, but surely those shared comms resources could be doing a bit more?

Dees select Jordyn Allen with pick 16

Position: Half-back/midfielder

Height: 166cm

From: Victoria, Eastern Ranges/Heathmont

Much like her namesake at Collingwood, Allen is a rebound defender who can move through the midfield. She has great kicking skills, is quick and covers the ground well – both from contest-to-contest, and across all four quarters. Coates Talent League Team of the Year.

"Not to be confused with her namesake"...too late for our media team! Hopefully not the actual recruiters at the club. Pictured in the thumbnail for the announcement is the Collingwood player NOT our new draftee, pictured below, a completely different person. [Edited to add: Has now been updated, so my link now shows the correct player. But for those catching up later, believe me, it was the wrong player for a good hour!]
