Henderson is your man and hes on our list. Has to be worth a shot and probably his best chance of playing.

Surely you jest ! He has less chance than Jefferson of succeeding. And he lacks any physical presence.

No its quiet different. Jack had stress fracture of his navicular bone.

My wife had a lis franc & I can tell you Jake won't play at all this year.

There seems to be disparate opinions regarding Jake's injury.

We have heard both Lisfranc and navicular - either need long term carefully planned rehab.

Would it be in Jake's best interests really, long term, to write 2026 off either way?

Sounds like to old one about grandpa.

Grandpa always says, one door closes, another one opens.

A lovely guy but an awful carpenter

I can tell you, you haven't seen the scan, weren't involved in the surgery, so Cranke you can make a guess but you wouldn't know. 2 things are never the same.

Not all, as I said IMO it would be an opening for him where I don't see one forward for him. And your judging his physical presence off what???

So annoyed they don't share numbers, but I did note Sharp had his watch on and it was at 19:03, which is off the charts... A standard 20m shuttle run (Beep Test) usually finishes in 10-15 minutes for very fit individuals; 20 minutes signifies an endurance level rarely seen, hitting level 18/17... if anyone is interested:

Watched almost every game he has played including Casey ones. IMHO he needs to be much more physical & aggressive with his attack on the ball more like Hibberd or May if he is going to make it which I highly doubt.

Well I did speak in detail to the surgeon about lis franc & he advised me that the injuries are nearly all similar & so is the surgery & recovery - ie repair of the ligaments holding the metatarsal bones in place. A bit like most ACL's are similar as is the recovery period.

I may well be wrong Cranky, and apologies if I am, but I'm guessing you and your wife are not currently elite athletes plying your trade in a billion dollar competition.

And if that's the case your experience dealing with your lis franc injury, whilst certainly giving you real insight into what Bowser will go thru, is of limited value in terms of estimating the length of his recovery period.

That's to say a young elite athlete in prime condition with access to cutting edge, expensive medical treatmwnt support and a full time medical team guiding his rehabilitation is likely to recover more quickly than Jo and Joanne public who have had the same injury.

He likely won’t wash his Endone down with a nice glass of red wine.

He could be... but as far as I know he has only played forward (maybe a few midfield minutes) at VFL / AFL level. Couldn't we go for the best lockdown small defender not on an AFL list (if Bowey was put on the long term injury list). Surely there would be some decent ones there - maybe not stars - but very reliable players that get the job done shutting down the most dangerous small forwards week in week out.

Not sure this post stands up to scrutiny. (See what I did there?) The left foot of a right-foot kick takes all the stress of the body as it's planted on the ground during the kick. I would have thought the injury would be at least equally problematic whichever foot it's happened to.

Well I will respectfully disagree. After a conversation with an ex footballer ( who had a Lisfranc ) he explained the healing process you go through ..lot of work on balance..wobble boards etc but guess what “kicking” is not part of that process. According to him it’s a massive advantage when you’re not loading your foot with a heavy football. I’m def no expert but commonsense dictates that would be quite an obvious observation.

You may well be correct Binman but remember Clubs & players love to put a positive PR spin on injuries.

Jake has to let the surgery heal then get his fitness back then find form.

Doubt he can contribute in 2026 but would be happy to be proved wrong.

I think he = Hendo?. Anyway henderson spent all his time on the bike and looked as skinny as. And apparently his current injury was caused by over doing it in the gym. Some can't win.

Yep, you're right about needing to find fitness.

Even if he does come back by mid-season, he'll be miles off optimal condition given he's now lost half the preseason.

Unfortunately that is the one thing that can’t be taught.

Thanks all for your updates

There threads can get a bit confusing regarding just who "he" is.

Maybe a suggestion to improve readability would be particularly if the player isn't named in the post one is immediately replying to, to put he (Bowey) or he (Jeffo) etc etc

Just a thought

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
