The old “wouldn’t get a game in a top side” call. Makes me laugh every time. Who would know? Not the caller, that’s for sure! It wasn’t so long ago that posters here were saying that about ANB. They said Jack Viney was only getting a game because of his dad! Hell, I remember when it was said about Todd Viney! It was said about James Jordan! It was said about Toby Bedford… and many many more. It’s very definitely an indicator that the author has NFI.

Your "facts" don't objectively measure up.

The examples given were swapping 2 players who went on to win Brownlows for 2 that played a handful of forgettable games.

Dress it up how you want, and I'm actually not a Tim Lamb basher, but that is an absolutely catastrophic trade result.

Leopards & spots anyone ?

SM is behaving the way he has always behaved.

Interesting all the love on here for Culley. I think he's shown a couple of decent signs, and probably shoudn't have been delisted by West Coast, but I'd be very surprised if he's in our best 22 when we're challenging again.

Speaking as a one eyed optimist (who i admit is sometimes wrong) Culley to me is a young player who has fire and enthusiasm, some speed and aggression, who can “mark above his height” and kicks ok.

I remain enthused

I think the club is making a statement with those number allocations… “you’re not here, but we have replaced you!”

Apparently the announcement will be made after the draft is over.

You are using the fact that he was cut, and overlooked, to form your opinion of his value.

I am using data and my eyes.

Your comprehension needs a lot of work, you disingenously argue against postions that aren't made, and you insult people. Chill.

Value is pretty much based off on field performance, and on that value @Dee Boys is correct that his value is fairly low considering he was delisted by one of the worst teams we have seen over the last couple of years to Melbourne being the only real club that was interested him over the summer... so yes, his value is fairly low.

In saying that, personally i see the potential in Culley because he has great flexibility and his athletic profile is built for today's game. I do wonder if King sees similarities to Ollie Dempsey in Culley for that wing position. If it's not in the midfield then there is certainly potential to be a 3rd tall roaming forward with his strong aerial game.

I know he is not required but for a guy that has been a bad investment in return due to injuries and form you would think making the best impression you can in front of a new coach would be the highest of priority.

Stark difference too CJ who said that whilst he didnt need to be there, he wanted too because thats always been his thing was to attend day 1 of preseason regardless if he wasn't required.

I am already sick of people bagging Shane McAdam.

This was happening this time last year.

Give the man a go.

Charming!

Wayne you clearly rate him more highly than I do. That's absolutely fine, that's life!

I certainly hope I'd have better manners than to tell you that you have "NFI" simply for having a differing opinion however.

Enjoy your day and Go Dees.

And I'm not saying he's not a decent player.

All I'm saying is that similar to the likes of Frost, Oscar McDonald, Weideman, Stretch, Hannan, Vandenberg, JKH, Hore etc who all got plenty of games for us as we were developing, that I think as we improve again to the point that we're (hopefully) contending again, he may struggle to get regular games.

That's just my opinion! Not sure why it seems to have riled some people up so much.

Um he is a different type of player to many you mention here and somewhat staggeringly Oscar Mc Donald is STILL on an AFL List years after we delisted him!

This absolutely, and I'd add BBB to that fire. Goes from a bottom team to a mid team and I'm sure there were a lot of people thinking 'He wouldn't get a game at Richmond' (and they'd probably be right). But he was of course integral for the Demons in 2021. You want a champion team, not a team of champions. Maybe Culley's instrumental in a premiership, maybe he's not, but it's not about whether he could slot into the Lions or Cats. It's about whether he can play and execute his role in our team and make everyone better. Every club (yes even the Lions and Cats) have guys like Culley around. What wins premierships is the group effort. Not whether Culley is an A-grader.

People should be aware that Shane McAdam suffered an Achilles injury in February of this year. I'm not an expert but I know of an athlete who took 12 months to recover so it's likely that even if he attends training, he's going to be in the rehab group so it shouldn't be a big deal if he doesn't start till next week.

The knockers seem to be ignorant of that fact!

You reckon he'd handle the wet conditions? 😁

I'm not bagging him at all, i am just speaking facts.

It's been a bad investment due to injuries and form. Which part of that do you not agree with?

I disagree that it's a "bad investment" on balance i'd say it's a "terrible investment."

Yep.

Ben Brown kicked 190 goals in three seasons, not really sure he's a valid comparison. He absolutely would've got a game at Richmond alongside Riewoldt before Tom Lynch arrived!

Completely agree about your champion team call. All I'm saying is I don't think he's quite good enough to be a role player in a top team. People arguing he'd get in Brisbane's side ahead of the likes of mids, wings and forwards like McCluggage, Ashcroft x 2, Bailey, Cameron, Rayner, Neale, Dunkley, Lohmann, Berry etc have lost touch with reality. Some people think he'll get there in future. If you're one of those people then terrific! I have my doubts, that's all.

As I said, I hope I'm wrong!

Sorry but you’re delusional if you think he gets a game at those teams. He’s on the fringe of our best 22 and we’re a bottom 6 side.

Saying West Coast’s list manager should be sacked on account of letting him go is also bizarre. We were the only club interested in him after they cut him and even after training with us for the entire pre-season he was still overlooked for Henderson who hadn’t even trained with us, and he only got a call up very late after AMW did his knee.

He’s a serviceable AFL footballer but once we improve I think others will go past him and he won’t be best 22. That’s ok.

Let’s agree to disagree and move on. Hope you’re proved right and he’s got a premiership medal around his neck one day.

You’re wrong — kid is a stud who many at other clubs couldn’t blv WCE Let go and we’re gonna watch him at his next venture which turned out to be back in the Afl. WCE chose to look at what he couldn’t do instead of what he could do and are saying that price.. guy is a best 23 🔒

Can't really begrudge someone who isn't contractually required to be at training but it certainly is an interesting choice. Happy to give him the benefit of the doubt and maybe he has been told to take it easy. Otherwise an interesting choice. 🤔

Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing. Christ, we sleep for hours each day. No matter how much people want to push clearly it isnt always the best strategy.

If many at other clubs couldn’t believe WCE let him go, why didn’t they pick him up when he was available to every club for nothing? It took a last minute injury to AMW before the window closed even for us to throw him a lifeline after he’d spent the whole summer training with us.

Anyone at Training ASK ANY player form LY how McAdam was going LY in pre season match sins right up to the injury — see what comes back.. I think you’ll find he was absolutely tantalising!

At the time of leaving the Crows it was widely reported that the Adelaide fitness staff & SM didnt see eye to eye about his fitness levels. And he only averaged 14 games a year while at the Crows.

He came to his first pre season at Melbourne in pretty average shape & subsequently had a poor first year.

I would have expected someone with his record to come back on the first training day even if he is not contracted to do so.

Show some initiative, just walk the boundary & meet people.

He might be a great person but he's delivered nothing so far & the signs aren't good.

Cus list spots are a premium commodity and it’s not that easy — he’s exactly the type who we’d normally miss out on ie he’d dominate VFL go to club like Geelong and be who he is right now for us!!! A club DID see and recognise the resent we’re just lucky for once it was US!!!!!!
