My short sighted view is a team with Viney, Steele, Sparrow (?), and then Sharp is yuck

My long term view and presumably the one taken by the recruiters is that he actually fits really well with Windsor, Lindsay, Langford, Pickett, Rivers

With that being said if you can't play a second position and your flaws are kicking & speed you better be pretty special to take the punt on

Short term view should be off the table - they're rookies.

There's a lot of vision of Sharp playing forward and showing some craft at making position and being a good mark and kick for goal. I think the whole "one trick pony" thing might be overplayed a bit here.

If he's the best surely competent recruiters will snap him up before #7. Too much of these discussions will be pointless if we dont get him. I bet nearly every team has done tons of analysis before the upcoming draft.

If he's still on the board I think we have to take him.

I really really like Sharp and i think he's been absolutely rock solid through underage footy.

Honestly my biggest concern with him is he's a pure, ball winning inside midfielder and perhaps the game has gone past that role a little bit/we already have guys who can play that role.

If i am West Coast or Richmond i'd be thinking he's a rock solid candidate for a rebuilding team, but possibly we need someone with more speed, skills and difference making qualities.

If i am choosing between Cumming and Sharp, i'd be choosing Cumming every single time, having said that, if Sharp is on the board at pick 8, we're going to have to give it very serious thought because there is little doubt he'd be the "Best available."

SA captain Dyson Sharp, who has widely been linked to the Bombers. He’s an Essendon supporter and suits what the club needs in midfield, being a bigger-bodied extractor who can also go forward for marks and goals.

Agreed. I think he’s near certainty to at least be a good AFL inside midfielder. Great size, contest winner and a style that translates very easily between juniors and seniors/AFL.

The question the clubs need to ask is if they want that type of player as a priority. The answer will be different for each club. It would surprise me if Essendon didn’t want him, given their sustained paucity of big bodied contest winning midfielders.

You're forgetting Dodo is no longer in charge

'Don't stop': Midfield jet adds new string to his bow to...

South Australian prospect Dyson Sharp is one of the best pure midfielders in the draft

Long write up on the AFL website.

Seems like the proverbial nice young man.

The article is obviously setting out to moderate perceptions of Sharp being limited in the roles he can play.

Maybe I'm a sucker, but I am reassured.

There's always a need for at least a coupke of players who can dominate in the packs, and within a few seasons he could be our only one on hand!

I still think we should prioritise Sams. At least one Sam every season.

Nil interest according to Cal

Where does he go? Essendon appears his starting point at its pair of top-10 picks, but if he doesn't go there, then Hawthorn (pick 10) and West Coast (13) come into the considerations. At that point, other clubs will be looking to get up the board if he's still there.

Harsh, but I was re watching some Langford highlights last night and it just seems like everything Sharp can do we already have that with Langford, so can understand why they'd look for something a little different

If he could kick or mark the pill like Langford we wouldn't hesitate to take him imo

He seems like a lesser version which probably explains our lack of interest.

Grilj seems like the more complimentary player with his pace and agility

I’m hoping he’s still in the board at our pick and we then get a decent offer to trade back and improve pick 37.

Adelaide might bite but all they have is 16 then 48. Do we go 8 and 37 for 16, Adel F1 & 48?

Would really improve our hand next year but I’d be hoping we would hold 37 in that deal.

I think we want a third first round pick this year. Perhaps WC pick 13 and other picks. Ideally a trade would be done that includes the suns as a third club before their picks get traded or used up.

This guy has grown on me. I agree he's unlikely to get to us, and from what King has said he's not entirely what we're looking for, but he'd be a quality player for a long time. He can push forward and kick goals, so not as one-dimensional as some would have it. Not my first choice, but I certainly wouldn't be upset if we got him.

Can’t understand why the Dees are off this youngster. He’s got the tools to be a 200 gamer at AFL level. A genuinely tough smart footballer. If it’s Sharp v Nairn, I’d take Sharp in a heartbeat.

Based on our last 2 years of drafting (and probably this years too with Nairn & Farrow), we won't touch mids who 1) don't have versatility and or 2) have kicking as a weakness

Fair call. I liked Grlj and Josh Lindsay. Pace and elite disposal as added quality.

Nairn’s endurance and marking and versatility makes him an option. But from viewing , I’d say his kicking is also just ok.

I like Lindsay too. Seems like such a safe bet.

I think Nairn's kicking is undersold as his mechanics are a bit odd. I'd go as far as saying it looks very good.

I really worry about the other aspects of Lindsays game. There is no use having a defender who cannot defend well regardless of how well he kicks.

Alas.. I have worries about most players that will be available at our picks.
