I just read the article in the Sun on Amber Whalan, a mother of three and a fanatical Dees fan, who passed away at 38 from Cancer, after a brave fight.

I was crying reading the article, looking at the photos of her and her kids and still am.

Life is still there to live outside footy and for some, it is just so unfair and sad.

She loved her family and friends and the Dees and it is nice to know our team gave her so much joy, while she was fighting a terrible health battle.

Do yourselves a favour and read the article and reflect as I have done, that while we are all fans of our team, there is a lot more going on in life and in the end it is a sport to enjoy but not life.

So maybe we can be a bit better to each other when we disagree and in the way we treat our players and ex players.

RIP Amber and sincerest condolences to your family and friends.

Ahh dang! Remember he back in 2019.. from my recollection she was cancer free at the time?

Bloody sad indeed.

Far out what [censored] news.

Thoughts and condolences with the family!

Such sad news and thanks for sharing @Redleg . It’s really hard to think how difficult and sad it will be for the 3 kids growing up. Hopefully they have other family support to help out.

Condolences to all the family.

It’s a bastard of a disease that sadly doesn’t discriminate when it comes to the victim’s age or situation. It’s so wrong that someone in the prime of her life and with a young family who love her, should have to suffer so much and be taken from those who love her, far too soon.

Do you have a link to the article @Redleg ?

Sorry Hardtack, I am away and with poor WiFi and only my iphone, but article was in today’s Sun, so hopefully someone can put it on for you.

I will try but unlikely.

Thanks mate… no problem, I’ll try to find it myself (I’m a lazy sod 😁).

EDIT: found it, but unfortunately it’s behind a paywall, and the usual trick I use for the Age and Sydney Morning Herald (turning off Java script in the browser), doesn’t work 😞

My condolences to the Whalan and Vickers-Willis families. This is so unfair, and I know her side of the family are mad MFC supporters. I hope the club can reach out and offer some sympathy,

It's terrible news. I'm sure many of us here know this cruel disease all too well.

There was an announcement at the ground before the AFLW game today, with condolences to the family, along with the family of the teen boy who died in Bendigo last week, whose family are also MFC supporters.

Tragic news. My heart goes out to those 3 kids, I can't even begin to understand.

A family member is dealing with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma right now. Treatment is going as planned for now but still very hard to wrap your head around.

If there is any sort of page where we can make show support in way of a contribution I'd be keen to know.

I believe the Whalan family have close links to the Mordi-Brae football club, which is the largest club in my local area. I don't know the family, but this will affect a lot of people. There is some information in the post below. I believe there is also a GoFundMe appeal set up to benefit the family.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
