Funny you mention Deep Purple... I heard an ad for them playing in Asia while I was there. Got me thinking as to whether there were any original band members left. According to Wikipedia we are now up to version 6 or thereabouts of the band. Got far too complicated for me. Is there anyone left?

Yes, he's being delisted in a roundabout way ... but instead of costing the club $7Million for 5 more years of his contract (or thereabouts), the cost to the club sounds like it will be less than $1.8Million all-up*

*If the recent reports are correct that we'll only be up for 25% - 30% of his salary

From the classic MkII line-up that gave us Machine Head, Ian Paice and Roger Glover. Ian Gillan has returned.

Ritchie Blackmore is still doing his own thing and Jon Lord passed several years ago

Grundy was always going to be the benchmark.

iirc Pies paid about 50%. He was reportedly on $1.1m/$1,2m. We paid approx him $600K

Olivers contract is about $1.3m and will be about $1.7m in the later years of his contract. So $700 sounds about right.

The issue I have is if Oliver takes a pay cut after he is traded and GWS get all the $ benefit. He said he would take a pay cut last year if he was traded. So there is no reason to think he won't at GWS.

Yeah. Dont get me wrong. I can see thr broader picture. Hell. I agree that we should move them on.

Losing Clarry? It hurts. Regardless of circumstances. Losing him for a late pick. It burns.

Seems that the Grundy subsidy was circa $250k whereas it was certainly spoken of as $500k at the time.

If we can offload Oliver at $325k per year take it and run UNLESS you think he gets 100% better form wise in 2026 (unlikely).

The Petracca deal is much harder to do but we know how it's going to end.

Mediocre Melbourne is back big time.

Got going too late in the season to save his career at the Demons

It is very sad to end this way but for his own sake, he needs a fresh start elsewhere

I reckon he'll return to his best as he was born to play footy and all he needs is a healthy mind and healthy body

All good things come to an end but prematurely losing Gus, ANB, Trac & Ollie is a body blow. In a parallel universe all 4 could still be playing standout footy for us

And replacing those types of players won't be easy ... like it or not, the club is now in rebuild mode (certainly in terms of being a contender again)

At first sight, Oliver would be breaking his contract with MFC. Therefore, Oliver is responsible for re-imbursing MFC such that MFC is in the same position as if he performed the contract. This might include as an ambit claim, kicking in $300k p.a. so that MFC might attract a free agent. This might backfires if he waddles around at Casey on his current salary but I don't think that he has the balls.

This might be set on its head if parts of his contract specifically survives its termination. Are you aware that this is the case?
