I reckon both clubs think that they're holding the best hand here and are waiting for the other to cave. This will go down to the wire. Anyone thinking that we will get more than a straight swap of players and a trade of later picks is delusional.

If we can manage to steal a straight swap we will have come away as bandits.

Just listened to his interview... I think Andy baited me with this selective use of X posts.

Any sense on whether Humphrey will nominate us?

Confident with the chats last week. Another meeting scheduled. MFC have told him that if he wants it to happen, he must drive it

Pick 3-6 in 2026 can’t be on the table. Next years draft is very important to us.

I get it and I agree, but Humphrey is older and very likely better than any 18 year old next year.

I want us to be able to attract decent FAs and trades at the end of 2026, and that means getting Humphrey in the door now.

And Flanders is the curveball here too.

I think the Suns will trya and force him to Melbourne.

And I hope we say it's Humphrey or Trac stays.

Flanders isn't coming to Melbourne. That deal to Saints for 7 will be one of the quicker ones to get done, massive overs for Ned.

GC will back themselves in to get Trac deal done for picks.

Just trying to place the relevant posts in the relevant threads. It become difficult when the Trac and Humphrey stuff is inextricably linked.

Any Tim Lamb updates will always be posted to the Tim Lamb updates thread.

we have to hold our nerve and be prepared to hold trac to his contract

I reckon Dimma wants Trac badly. If Bailey nominates us then the deal gets done imv

Im guessing this next meeting is the club now offering him an official contract offer from our end.

It’s very obvious that unless Humphrey forces their hand, as Trac has ours, this deal won’t move

Humphrey has to put his big boy pants on and speak up. Otherwise they’ll continue to say no way.

IF Humphrey nominates us and we start the bidding then we really should be able to get this deal done without cashing in all our chips. Give them Pick 23 this year. It’ll be the swindle of the century if we pull this off though.

It just depends on how bad he wants the move. He clearly has a part of him that wants to come back to Victoria. We can 'grow' that part of him by offering him some decent wages. So hopefully that is what we are putting together. I just hope its something like a $5 million x 5 year deal or thereabouts. I don't want us throwing silly money at an unproven player that has some potential.

It didn’t sound like that from the Craig Cameron interview - reading between the lines it sounded like Dimma had fairly clearly told Bailey ‘he ain’t going anywhere’

I’d pay up and massively front-end. $2m this year, for example. Keep some cap space for Butters next year.

We need to make him want to move badly by throwing him so much money he can’t refuse it

This better be Tim Lamb right now

I'm still curious as to why The Brand © would openly nominate GC unless he had a clear understanding that a deal could be struck.

We’re simply not getting him for a million a year. It’ll be $1.5million x (“insert ruinous number of years here”) He’s exactly the player this club needs. This deal would change our club for the better overnight. I seriously don’t think that’s hyperbole although I’ve pumped a lot of caffeine today.

I’ve said this before, he’s a mental midget, he may not have considered that.

not quite. Wont talk money until a commitment is made from BH to nominate us

Indeed. But the puppet masters are far from it.

Doesn’t that risk putting us on the back foot though? Especially if other clubs jump the queue and offer him a contract first

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
