AFLW: Rd 08 vs Essendon

Featured Replies

Good win, probably disappointed with our last quarter again, didn't make the most of our forward opportunities. Harris is the most important player in the team when she's on the team is on, can play anywhere, can roost a ball and is hard at it. Chaplin was superb didn't let anything pass her. Fitzsimon is becoming one of the most improved players in the league. I thought she was just a fringe player but this year she has taken her football to a new level. Bring on the Dockers!

Will the GM be mixing with the fans tonight?

I'm interested 'Ghosty'...

Paul Guerra was there tonight but didn’t come down to visit us like he usually does. He stayed upstairs at a function and watched the match from there. I saw him briefly at the function at halftime, he said the usual Essendon is dead to me and that was the extent of his interaction with the plebs 😅

Max and Tmac were also there tonight, splitting their time between the function and down on the fence. Judd was there but didn’t attend the function and I believe he was on the other side of the ground near the Essendon cheer squad.

Not surprising...

Kate is stalled on 95. Did I jinx it? Of course not. She wants that Casey Fields pitch invasion.

Hope Heater is ok. Goldie as well??

In some ways I feel like we should be up by more, but I think it's been a good hit out for us in terms of playing against a pressure team.

Agree completely, just the kind of game we needed. Did our girls play their way through it to the level we’ll eventually need? Not there yet. Don’t think they’ll be sitting around patting each other on the back, though. “Lots to improve on” is the constant message from the players.

Big thanks to Megan Fitzsimon who, at the end of the game, gave a signed footy to my daughter who is super shy and would have been hard to spot among the swarm of kids at the fence. It absolutely made her night. She can't stop talking about it.

And this is a nice reminder of the even bigger picture. How delightful!

And just by the by, but I like to think Jimmy would have loved the Dees W. Would have loved Goldie. Sigh.

According to the club’s Twitter, Goldie is suffering “an illness” 🤷‍♀️

Not sure about Heater. She seemed to be experiencing pain but it doesn’t sound like anything serious 🤞🏽

Not quite so LOL-ish, but, still...

Kate McCarthy: 'AFLW All Australian'

Max Gawn: '247 games'

Noticed this at the ground, over my own hearty joining in: I reckon the girls might have put their own subtle stamp on the song, with a bit of a 'swing'! Organic or deliberate, does anyone know?

Hester Brown was there, too, I think? Any chance of BBB returning? 🙏

Sorry, at this point I see that gesture as a show of support for his partner than for the club. Fair enough too, in that sense, but it also equally irks me as a club supporter.

Yeah definitely. My point was the BS rumour they'd broken up.

Not sure TR-A’B. But the players sing it way too fast for mine. Not just our teams but teams in general, the worst being Carlton players who rush through their song which has a slower tempo.

Any news on what Heaters injury is/may be?

I hope she’s ok, she’s my fave.

Mine too. Hard as a cats head.

Dislocated finger. 'Put back in' and 'OK'.

Fine for now, then.

Might give her grief 40 years down the track, though. I know!

Fun fact: Molly O’s boyfriend was there tonight; he attends all of her matches. His name is Ryley Sanders and he happens to play for the Western Bulldogs 😃

Yes it was difficult to see but I hid my inner turmoil while talking to her. Just as difficult an encounter was one I had with her sister Esme at Victoria Park. She was in black and white 😭 Ben and Hester were there not so much to support the Dees, but to support their close friend Sabrina Frederick, although BBB did come and hang with us for a quarter.

Molly's a star, but she might need to adjust her life choices a touch. Can you have a word? Has she ever heard of Humphrey B Bear by any chance?

BBB works for Essendon AFLW. Head of Development

I actually have discussed her choice of boyfriend with her. I said a “mixed marriage” is fine providing he’s not an Essendon or Collingwood player, the Doggies in comparison being ok. She said I should come and meet him after the match tonight and she’s sure I’ll like him coz he’s really nice. I forgot to do this so she only gets a pencilled-in pass mark, for now 😝

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
