All for this. Does mean no actual death ride... although ill still laugh my head off if they miss finals

Collingwood followed by Freo then Gold Coast , that'd make my day if those 3 miss finals.

Sullivan Robey. Seen as a bit of a bolter in this draft and it has been reported or at least mentioned on DL that JT likes him.

Jason Taylor has always been the one person I’ve got complete faith in at the Dees

Rumour I read; pick 3 is in our sights from the Tigs, with the intention of getting Robey, the idea revolving around a current and a future 1st rounder from the dees

Points-wise I think something like this stacks up;

Tigs give; Pick 3, 3rd rounder next year

Dees give; Pick 8, 1st rounder next yr tied to GC

We can get creative with the picks we have if there are clubs willing to move around the draft.

Pick 3, f2 from tigers

Pick 7, f1 (gc), maybe another late pick to tigs like f4

We could look at moving Pick 8 as well. For example

In: Pick 10, 22 from hawks

Out: Pick 8, pick 37

Take 3, 10 and 22 to the draft

3: Robey

10: O. Taylor/Lindsay

22: Dovaston (if available)/ Pickett

Future picks we would have something like

Round 1: dees (4-10)

Round 2: Tigers (19-25)

Is Robey really that much better than who we’re likely to get at 7 and 8?

I can’t answer that, I’ve only done some light reading and watched highlight reels on Robey or others around the 7/8 mark.

Part of me backs JT in to make the right call, part of me worries about our tendency to sell future assets to buy in the now.

This could be an all time blunder on my behalf but I find Robey underwhelming in the football part of his game.

I'd rather us trade back with 8 and see us with the pics to nab Dovaston and Sumner - Pickett than trade our future first & 8 to move up.

Got to keep the gun loaded Humphrey..

As a matter of interest would they look at Mitchell as exp to support the young mid & Guthree as a back up defender in particular the King relationship

What other parts of a game are there?!

He’s a very strong and powerful kid, so I guess athleticism?

I watched the highlights of the game where he had 40 & 3 (?) and the three shots on goal might have been the only possessions to find targets

No.

I'm not sure we would want to trade out of this draft. The club have already commented on this being the last one before Tassie gets a heap of pics.

I do like idea of getting Sumner-Pickett as Kozzie would perfect for him to learn from and we need a small forward. Is he 180cm still. One site has him at 192cm.

Other than that just back Taylor in. If he thinks we need to be higher for whoever he's keen on, so be it.

Someone mentioned swapping 8 and 9 with Carlton and us agreeing not to bid on their FS to grab another pick off them.

How much do Carlton gain by us not bidding at 7, 8 or 9?

Jack Steele is our midfield experience and he’s the choice because if he has any gas in the tank he runs defensively. Mitchell is out of the Pies because he’s all see ball get ball.

Our backline actually has too much experience! Ideally we would’ve moved May on. We have T Mc, Lever, Salem to support mid career guys like Bowser and CJ. Plus Disco isn’t young.

All for looking for some mature age finds for the last list spot or so if they have talent, but no need for experience for experience sake.

They mostly gain by getting to keep 9 as well as their points owing taking a nice drop.

At the moment if we bid on Dean at 7/8 they lose 9 in matching the bid.

They have pick 11 as well but probably trade that pick out until next year and/or for a bunch of points pick if they can.

The real question is do Carlton feel threatened by us and Essendon bidding or are they confident we won’t? If we can convince them we will bid there’s a lot of incentive for them to flick us a pick.

We could do 8 for 9 and 43.

Send 43 and 37 to the Suns for 29. Get back in Latrell Pickett range.

Wouldn’t have thought so.

I'm probably starting to over complicate things and probably some flaws to this idea, but how would the following look.

Trade

In: 9, 11, future 1st (Carl or syd)

Out: 7, 8

Gets Carlton two players ahead of a potential f/s bid giving them essentially 3 first rounders.

We stay in a similar range but end up with a 3rd first round pick for next year which could be a top 10 pick.

Think it might leave the blues short picks to match a bid however and probably other flaws to this idea as well.

We'd have to be confident the players we like will be there at 9 and 11.

I find this such an interesting trait, and one I'm terrible at observing in games.

Who do you see as the best defensive runners in the game at the moment?

Wade Derkson delisted by GWS, could this have been our plan all along?

Carlton will want 2 or even 3 first rounders next year to insure they get Cody Walker.

They’ll want one of 7, 8 or 9 before a Dean bid but not both, as Dean gets them another first rounder.

That would be a great deal for us but I doubt it happens.

Touk Miller, ANB, Dunkley, Sparrow (hence why he’s always picked). Look for guys who quickly get to the corridor after turnovers.

I'm not up with the latest with bid matching rules but if Walker is going top 2 they'll be trading those picks out anyway I would have thought.

They may see value in moving it into this year's draft to get 7 and 8 if it's ahead of the Dean bid. 3 top 10 picks for them essentially this year and still a first next year to split to make up the points for a Walker bid.

Are there new rules preventing splitting of picks next year or something similar?

Well his name for starters!

How many John Smith’s and Max King’s do we need? Sullivan Robey is pretty unique.

Not sure it’s locked In yet but it’s strongly suggested bids will have to be matched with max 2 picks next year.

If Walker goes at pick 1 for example Carlton will need picks 5 and 15 just to match.

I've been thinking this myself since I read the announcement.
