See the earlier reply. But it comes down to giving up 2 second rounders in a deep draft to get a nice player but not a difference maker a year early.

You are seriously underrating Lindsay who off the back of virtually no pre-season, has shown he is going to be an excellent player and exactly what we need in terms of ball use and decision making.

I can’t believe with the decision to sack a Premiership Coach that a Board (even Melbourne’s) would take such a huge decision without input from either a senior player (Max no way) or GM Football. Richardson would have heard the “noise” that major change was coming . It will come out in time because leaks always happen at Melbourne but if this is the case this reeks of Dean Bailey / Cameron Schwab ie we got the wrong man. Watch this space

Gee, I remember the same club when the players ruled the roost. It took Peter Jackson and Roos to sort that out, whether you like it or not, it's a business. Players are employees, and they will be coached by a new person, and they will adapt or move on or get moved on. That's football.

Unless you actually know, I don't think you should be posting this type of thing

Mark Bickley confirmed it on the SEN SA radio he threw Simon under the bus.

He's a rat.

Get him out of our club

I do question why Ed Langdon seemed to communicate himself and and his team-mates feelings so much more concisely and maturely than half the posters waffle on here.

It was interesting to hear Josh Mahoney acknowledged by SG along with Peter Jackson and Todd Viney in setting the ground work for our premiership. Obviously have no idea but from what I do know, he seemed to not get enough recognition after we did win the flag.

Would love to see what would have happened had Josh Mahoney got the CEO role rather than Pert.

I have often wondered the same. He was Peter Jackson's pick which was ignored.

the head coach is gone, and a number of assistant coaching appointments have not worked out. that's on Richo

i reckon soft cap considerations might keep him in the job for now but longer term we need a new head of footy

Can he be employed with the same wage outside of the football department? Therefore freeing up the soft cap, yes/no?

Hinkley seems like he needs a break from coaching, so probably won’t coach for another few years, he is as smart as anyone, so would be a good replacement for Richardson. Him supporting the incoming coach could be something to consider.

Just reading between the lines from what we saw at the presser, I get the feeling Richardson threw Goodwin under the bus when they were reporting back to the board.

He can’t stay on, surely…

😳

What did Mark Bickley say exactly?

I think Lindsay will be indeed a difference maker.

Do you have more context here?

Also I doubt he "threw him under the bus". He'd have likely been consulted by the board during the process.

This is an extremely underrated comment.

We chose to distance ourselves from the Jackson brass and I was never sure why. It would be wrong to say that Pert didn't have some success but after where we had come from and having had to start from a long way back it could have been beneficial to see Mahoney installed in that position and let the ship sail on with what we had built to that point.

A sliding doors moment. There's only one person who can explain the thought process behind this decision and I doubt we'll be hearing from them anytime soon.
