Daniher gone by August?

NEALE Daniher's days at Melbourne are numbered, with club and coach now expected to part company by mutual consent by the start of August.

The Age believes a last-minute intervention by Daniher on Monday night prevented the club from releasing details of an exhaustive review into Daniher's performance and his future. It is believed the club changed the criteria of that review with respect to its coach of almost 10 years, who in effect was being asked to reapply for his own job.

Instead, club chief executive Steve Harris will head a subcommittee to look at Melbourne's football department resources, player list management, player development and coaching structure in a bid to appease Daniher, whose future at the club was virtually decided late Friday night with his team's capitulation to Richmond.

The review will be completed on July 31. Under the terms of Daniher's contract, that date is also the deadline for the coach in terms of his exclusive relationship with the Demons. From August 1, he is allowed to hold talks with other football clubs.

[...]While Daniher had been keen to continue with the Demons — he took the club to a grand final in 2000 and the club has made the finals for the past three years — he is now resigned to the fact that it could be best for both parties to part.

so if daniher is out by the start of august, what kind of set-up happens for an interim coach and who is it likely to be? Why would he stay if he knows he's not even going to see teh season out?

Wouldn't that just be his standard weekly press conference on a wednesday?

yes, but im tipping the hot topic will be that of his future.

Wouldn't expect much out of the press conference, just the usual "na I don't feel any pressure", "I'll let the review take its course and we'll go from there" and "na i wasn't disappointed in Paul's comments, he's got a job to do and he's doing it"

yeah you're probably on it there, but im still interested to hear what he has to say. Hopefully the journos will go in hard on the issue and really push him for answers.

if he is gone by august.... do we get a temp coach ..... assitant promoted etc?

do we get a new coach? with a contract?

i think we are best to wait end season, more people will put their hand up to coach and less chance of gettin a dud

im not sure what the go is, i would have thought, if he goes at start of aug, Paul Williams will step in. I agree though, doens't seem like there's much sense in terminating his contract 5 weeks out from season end.

No problem. Your earlier statement seemed definite on Williams.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
