INs and OUTs vs. bombers

Jarka, go back and re-read the debate we had and if you have an ounce of intelligence you may comprehend what I was stating. I can't recall stating him as mentally weak at any point I believe that was your interpretation. All I did was provide an position for consideration as to why some things aside from what you see on the park may be considered when promoting someone.

Why so defensive? I used the same phrase in that thread you're talking about and you weren't upset then, why now?

BIG RED SIGNING IN:

As much as we would like wholesale changes with Sandy playing on Sunday they will limit changes for the 5 day turnaround.

In: Newton, Whelan

Out: Holland (No match up), Yze

Top point Big Red.

I'd like to see...

In: Newton, Warnock, Whelan

Out: Holland, Ward, Yze

Frawley needs to be given a big task this week. Lets see how good he is at this early stage.

B: Carroll, Warnock, Whelan

HB: Bell, Frawley, Bizzell

C: Bruce, McDonald, Green

HF: Bate, Newton, Pickett

F: Davey, Robertson, Sylvia

R: White, Jones, McLean

I/C: Godfrey, P Johnson, Petterd, Wheatley

Obviously if Johnstone or Neitz is fit they play.

Warnock at full back, haha surely a joke, hasn't showed any bit of promise to me yet...

Warnock at full back, haha surely a joke, hasn't showed any bit of promise to me yet...

But if we are going to follow a "2008 onwards" strategy, we need to find out who is prepared to stand up. Warnock's a start ... he was promoted from the rookie list last year, and a few games for the remainder of 2007 will tell us where he stands. How are we going to find out if we only go on feeling of "promise"?

It's what we should be doing for all young players now.

Don't forget Carroll was in almost the same position after being elevated from the rookie list at the end of 2003. He took until the end of 2005 to find his feet, then won the Most Improved trophy in 2006.

Why? Ward's desicion making and disposall in awful and he doesn't man up at the best of times.

Brown: see Ward.

Godfrey: cant kick, simply he either makes the man stop and prop or turns it over, on the rare occasion he has a day out like v the pies.

when Bartram is fit next year we will not need him.

Holland: A week to week proposition, should not play v dons

Yze: really needs to regain form and touch, needs to bend over and pick up the ball, his first 5 mins v tigers was good, did 2 chases and tried to tackle.

Pickett: well his form has been terrible, really seems to have either lost interest or just cant physically will himself to the contest.

these players are not really going to form the foundation of a succesful side, pickett and yze if fit and in form defiantly offer something to the club, but sadly neither have the form at the moment.

This is coming from the President of the Brown and Ward fan club....

WHAT THE?!

You are kidding yourself. Ward does not man up???????? Awful disposal? He achieved 100% accuracy last week or did you not have a look at the stats?!... This goes to show that some people in here have NO IDEA! Daniel Ward has beaten every dangerous opponent he has played on this year. If you looked closely at the Richmond game, Nathan G Brown has giving Bell a hiding in the first 15 minutes, Danners shifted TRUSTY Ward onto him and Brown ended up with 6 touches only for the rest of the game. He kicked 3 goals, two of which were dodgy umpiring decisions because after all, it is Nathan Brown we are talking about. One goal was as a result of a push in the back from frustration to Ward, and the other Brown marked it over the goal line, was clearly out but was paid in. Not to mention the ball was in Richmonds forward line 70 TIMES!!! Hell Richmond are bound to kick goals when our mids refuse to MAN UP and I guarentee you that if our mid's were not selfish and actually worked on their defensive game perhaps our defenders would not cop it every bloody week!!!! Have a close look at just how close Ward sticks to his man this week and you will see just how outlandish the above statement is my friend. Why the hell would Neale Daniher keep Ward in every week and give him the big jobs if he was not doing what he was supposed to?? I am dumbfounded!

I'll light your torch and then give you a shove ;)

I think Petterd needs a break, young kids need a break. If he has another shocker it will play on his confidence. Setting him up for a fall if you put him on a pedastool too early! I really rate him but these kids need nurturing!

I know we like to think we're often on the wrong end of dodgy umpiring decisions, but if you watch the replay it was clearly marked in the field of play ... but only just. The TV covered it perfectly from right along the goal line, and he took it first grab inside the field of play before sliding through.

The umpire got it right and we can't claim the goal as lucky.

I meant Travis, Paul and Chris

White, McDonald, Brown, Ward, Yze, Carroll, Holland aren't going to take us to a Grand Final - you need couple as back up in cse of injury and you trade or drop the rest

White is a capable player who still provides the occassional flash of brilliance. McDonald is an All-Australian from LAST YEAR for christs sake. They've both been raking in the possessions and their specialty stats - hit-outs and tackles respectively.

Carroll is a quality defender, although like someone suggested here the other day, he might not actually be best suited to the FB role.

Brown, Ward and Holland are admittedly depth players and probably shouldn't routinely be getting spots in the 22. But teams cop injuries in finals just like any other time. I'll point out that Armstrong and Heffernan are both premiership players.

Yze looks like fate is coming after him with a nasty, nasty agenda. I'd hope he'll be back next year and provide us with at least one more season of good football. Let's face it, Yze's very best is about as good as it gets from anyone and we'd all be ecstatic if he managed a return to form. The break might even be what he needs.

On second thought, "mate, what you really need is a major hernia" isn't something I can ever see myself saying in a positive way.

My in's and outs

IN: T Johnstone, D Neitz, M Newton, M Warnock

OUT: B Holland (no match up), A Yze, S Godfrey (tries hard but can't kick), either D Ward or B Pickett

I think it is Godfrey's 100th and Picketts 200th this week though so you can pretty confidently say they are safe

For me out come Yze (inj.), Holland (no match-up in the backline), Pickett and Godfrey.

Apparently Godfrey and Pickett have milestone games coming up, so perhaps they'll be saved. In fairness, Godfrey's disposal has generally been improved but it was back to bad on Friday and I don't think we need him tagging vs Ess. If he's not tagging he doesn't have a role IMO. Pickett was extremely uninspiring and still doesn't look very fit.

I'd include Dunn & Newton and look at CJ and Buckley. Wheatley to play on a wing in my team so perhaps there's a spot for Warnock who has been in the Sandringham best recently.

I can see why some have suggested Miller come in, but I'd only be considering it if he's to be used as a CHB a la his role in Pavlich at the 'G last year. While there's value in giving kids a crack at big jobs there's no point in losing a game and have a younger player embarassed because we don't have options. As another poster said, a winning culture has to be developed so a balance between fielding a competitive side and blooding youngsters is important.

    MORE FIERCE by Meggs

We’re back!  Winning the last three matches has recaptured our Demon spirit and, with superstar players returning from rehab, our Season 2024 dreams are not over yet.   So come along 5.05 pm Saturday afternoon to watch this Round 9 ladder-defining match at the Field of Dreams. Expect the Tigers to be fierce, but surely the Demons will be more fierce. Playing conditions are expected to be a dry 15 degrees with a typically gusty Cranbourne wind. The media opprobrium of the ill-consi

    IN FRONT by Meggs

In this must-win clash between Melbourne 11th on the ladder and St Kilda 8th, it was the Demons who were in front all day to win in a hard-fought Round 8 clash to make it three in a row to keep theit slim finals chances alive. A good crowd of enthusiastic footy families for week 2 of Pride Round had gathered.  The full pews in the well-appointed RSEA Park grandstand provided excellent viewing.   The Saints won the toss and elected to kick to the southern end favoured by a strong 2-3 g

    THE TRADING CHRONICLES 02

Part 2: Watching grass grow by Whispering Jack Critics of test cricket (and I’m not one of them) will often claim the sport is excruciatingly boring: that following a five day match is much like watching grass grow. However, the longest form of that game has nothing on the first week of the AFL trade period when it comes to inducing sleep among those in the football public who follows this process in its somnolent moments. The week gone by has been no exception. Only two player trades

    THE CAVALRY ARRIVES by Meggs

The injury plague which has beset the Demons 2024 campaign is finally starting to dissipate and with consecutive wins over GWS Giants and a 2-point nail-biter in Adelade, a sense of optimism is rising.  Some commentators are now asking whether the Dees can make finals? A huge surprise with team selection this week when it was announced that champs Olivia Purcell, Paxy Paxman and Eden Zanker would play.   Hallelujah!  The cavalry has arrived. GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised
