That's 2 reviews. Surely a goal ump should call those. Within 2 metres on both occasions. time wasting !!!

Especially the second one. Goal umpire should’ve backed himself.

not sure what the point of that goal umpire is

to stand behind the post and not see anything it seems

I’m just happy to see the ball somewhere other than in the Lions goal square

He did and correctly.

Field umpire came in and called for reviews.

2022 is proving an ordinary draft - the first four will be stars though.

Looks to me like there’s a fair few players from that draft that will be pretty good – not just the top four. I could name Michalanney, Weddel, Humphrey, and Fletcher off the top of my head. Then of course there’s The poo 💩

Seriously though, I was wondering a bit as well. Mainly because this group was more affected by Covid than any other. No under 16’s, no underage year. Even in 2022 I think the state squads were a bit all over the place.

So I think many of them will have a slower start to their careers, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the games played is not significantly different by the end.

Did this really happen? 😂

absolutely. Read it on the internet.

The big o has the same kicking coach as Max.

Given his time at Casey, maybe Max himself was McInerney's kicking coach.

Be a bit like like living next door to Federer and getting chess lessons.

It's pathetic isn't it? All was lost when they got rid of the lab coats. Up until then they were the most trusted of community members.

poor handball from bont there

a rare occurrence

I watch the Dogs most weeks. I recon he's been 1 or 2 percent off his best for a few weeks. So he's the best player in the comp by only half the length of the Flemmington straight now.

6 free kicks to 1 this Q.

lots of lucky ones to the lions

I wish JVR or Jefferson played like Morris.

I also hope Tholstrup can start playing like Lohmann.

Lions bringing some serious heat. doggies can't handle it

Been travelling to warmer climes so missed the chance to post the alternative sports this weekend.

World wide it's a quiet week but with the Storm playing Manly tomorrow with a win putting them top of the ladder it's a game worth watching. The NRL ladder or table as it's called can be a hard one to decipher due to 17 teams and rolling byes. Eagles before tomorrow have played 18 games with Storm at 16. That's three less games with only 6 weeks or so to go. Madness !(Shades of AFL with 19 teams perhaps)

Looked at several footy fixtures Round 24 has Essendon and Gold Coast playing 2 matches on the same day. Essendon and Sun have played one less match, not sure how they are going to make up the matches ?

One handed massive throw from Lachie Neale not paid.... home town arm chair ride from the umps

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
