It was a humiliating defeat for Melbourne highlighted by its usual wayward kicking at goals, loose defence and lack of pressure conceding easy goals. Nothing we haven’t seen before or since.

14.8 would be a start ...

They wiped the floor with us in a manner no other team have this year.

A real humbling performance.

the sun's lightning speed vs our snail-in-treacle pace was so hard to watch.. out of the 5 losses at the beginning of the year, this one made me the most concerned about the future of the current team. no one stood up. it was horrid.

I was in Sydney visiting my daughter when that match was on.

We found a pub in Manly to watch the match. It was a sportsbar type arrangement, with the match being shown on a small screen. Obviously events like pip spitting and hot dog eating were more interesting to the locals.

In any event, the Demons were deplorable. Not even a few beers could camouflage that.

It’ll be different this time. You’ll see. Please don’t ask me why since I have nfi why. All I know is, it will be different. We’ll come home with a win. ♥️💙

I truly hope so GW as I and family (11 of us) will drive down for the game and wanting to see a win live. Boy we need it, but it will be tough albeit we have a decent record against them on the GC.

I rewatched the round 3 match today.

First Qtr we could have been in front but for poor entries.

Second Qtr they won territory but we had shots and missed (Fritsch has since found his kicking boots again though)

Third Qtr they had a period of 10 min where everything went their way. But again all we were lacking was the forward connection

Fourth Qtr - the queue went in the rack for us.

Bottom line is: if we clean up entries and kick through the big sticks I think we beat them this week

  • because they are in a slump and will be feeling the pressure to prove themselves, and that's still a big perceived hurdle for them

  • and we have no reason not to have fire in the belly, pure rage that we embarrassed ourselves so hard when we last played them (that is if we have any dignity as a team... which i think has been a feature of our performances after round 5 , to give us credit)

  • not to mention we didnt have Pickett , Mcvee, Lever or Leb last time 🤫, and playing were Billings, AJ, Hendo and Howes

But Pickett 'is' the future of our current team. And the lad wasne there in March.

Instead it was the billings and hendo brigade.

Fair difference that

Small solace: Carlton's rubbish performance is keeping our poor performance out of the media.

very true, but it was more the way that rowell, anderson, etc, ripped the ball outta the guts and sprinted forward with trac and oliver grasping thin air. it more made me realise that our boys are no longer 'it'. the game has moved on.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
