Brock Mclean- not captain material

-Silly free kicks

lucky he had a better second half..... all i can say....

Didn't give away 1 last night you clown.

Posted

i was dissappointed with the boys constantly giving the ball to godfrey

he cannot dispose of the ball, unless its to an opposition player, or into space where they will get it first

TAG GODDERS TAG!!! dont get your own ball

c84.. you raise a good point.. was only thinking , much was made of our tackling once !! .. But we arent a good shepherding team. Almost a lost art to the Dees.. ..hmm...must be the coaching dept again.( who'd da thunk !!)

In close footy the first option is invariably to turf the pill, but often a cleverer path is to creat a path for man with ball to do something with it...yes..shepherding. The problem is there's easily half a dozen players who will never do that.

Shepherding....a good point that!!

and also agree Cam cant kick for [censored] anymore. He CAN play...just cant kick.

They gave it to him because he was the only one making play. There was no choice. Where was Bruce, Green and many, many others who SHOULD be making the play?

You watch open play and our players run 3 4 meters away for the cheap handball, when a bit shepard on the opponent so the player with the pill can have a easy path is the best option and its one we never take.

do some of you guys actually watch games.. Gods whilst no Judd has played quite well all year. His disposal is 100 times better than Bruces. Not pretty I grant you, but Gods has split the posts on the run from fity.. he puts the ball laces out to those that present. He doesnt play silly buggers with hospital handpasses. he hasnt always been as good as he is this year. But he's travelling Ok...not brilliant...but OK. A lot of others arent !!

Godfrey disposal better than Bruce!? I disagree. Every time he gets the ball there is about a 70% chance it will be a ineffective disposal IMO. He sure as hell does not put the ball laces out!

by laces out..im inferring he more often than not actually kicks to somewhere a melbourne player can mark it. So many of our players are kicking to unbalnced contests with no real chance. THAT shows poor footy thinking.

Yes he kicks better than Bruce.. id even choose Dutchy over Cam with a ball 20 m out from goal...

Posted

ok yes well perhaps he makes better decisions than other player, i have certainly noticed that players ARE kicking to unbalanced contests. Ok i see what you mean...quality of disposal in terms of where he kicks it. however his actually kick, very very poor. I would prefer cam kicking for goal.

Posted

i concede...he's not a 'pretty' kick !! :-)

It would help if brock had some shepard's off the ball like WCE do for judd.

Brownlow Bruce you seem to always want to bag brock out, i know you love bruce and people like myself and others think brock is a better captain option than bruce, but seriously mate, it seems every post you now do you bag out brock.

All it seems to do is show a massive pettyness on your behalf.

What was your rating of Bruce?

Mclean- worst game ive seen him play.

Bruce- kicking still a problem, should never be played down back.

this is an opinionated thread... i have mine... got a problem with it? too bad

my rating for bruce... not his best.... but i guess is captain didnt really show him how its done?

if anyone has led from the front in the last 3 years its bruce....

his 6-years-to-the-junior captain who has spent 3 years playing under the leadership mould of cameron bruce and co.?

Yeah, I love that we have higher expectations from Brock McLean, than we do from Cameron Bruce.

Who expected Brock to lead us to victory on Friday? (I did!)

Who remembers Friday was his 51st AFL game?

Was anyone more disappointed by Bruce's bad game than Brock's?

I know I wasn't, because I have come to expect consistency and hardness from McLean. Silly really, because I don't know another 50-game player in the AFL who is expected to perform and win games every week, and take over in the absence of his captain.

We expect that from him, because he is just that good.

I've stopped expecting miracles from Bruce a long time ago.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
