Clearly, a new sense of hope here.

Long and arduous road ahead but thank goodness there is some light again.

I'll openly admit I had us completely written off after five in a row but now four wins in five with a top scalp where is Big Kev?

I'm still annoyed about the Gws game and the umpiring and poor kicking v hawks because both those were entirely gettable. Just saying. With those wins we would be in the eight and serious contenders. Such a fine line at times between success and failure in this game for sure.

Again really keen to see Langford and Lindsay play. I'm hoping for Jvr to perform and come back soon. On paper these days with a fit list we look pretty damn good and now seem to have some viable options on a longer one for once.

Wordsmith of the week. You give #Georgeontheouter a run for his hard earned.

George is in a class of his own 😉 👍

plugger himself has said he doesn't think he can play forward anymore as he can't leap at the ball

personally i suspect he'd still be the best option as a roaming chf cos he's an aerobic beast but, as you said, better minds...

I imagine with him, Fritta, Milkshake it could be quite challenging for other teams.

Still really concerned about his omission but better minds than me I guess.

I once thought a skinny tall ruckman by the name of Gawn, I think, would never make it.

Speaking of better minds does anyone think Tmac should be played forward again? Especially given the brains trust think he's not required down back at present.

Swinging Tommy fwd these days I think would be reserved for an 'in case of fire break glass' type scenario and by that I mean he seems rather settled in defence ( and effectively so ) but if a game teetered and options were few, and there was no tomorrow as such I wouldn't hesitate sending him forward with one very simple instruction .. " all or nothing, take'm apart ". And I reckon he would. I do recall a game a few years back ( ironically against Syd at G ) he all but single handedly took the game by the scruff of its neck and willed himself to score.

Don't underestimate the Mac , but I think generally I'd have him maraud the back 50.

Boning Tommy Mac has got Pedo and Tomlinson written all over it, two players we desperately needed at times.

He was good enough to hold the fort while May and Lever were out, now he gets it in the back, history repeating itself.

Le big Mac please.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the first match this year with both May and Lever in the side? If so, expecting to hold Sydney to 0.0.0 of course, despite May being not quite the player he was.

In actuality I'm a bit worried about the odd couple being back together - this isn't exactly the 2021 version of them, or of Melbourne. I worry they'll leave us a bit slow in defence. We'll see how it plays out.

This ^^^^^

Afaiaa.. he's played very limited and managed minutes. No one is doubting his ability or effectiveness, certainly not I. I just wonder if this is the cleverest thing to do.

Both Ricky L and May have some history and issues ( recent times ) with injury whilst erstwhile soldier Mac seems to be going along quite strongly.

We'll see tomorrow I s'pose. Hope this doesn't blow up as an uh-oh!!!

I'd still have managed-rested May. I think this of all games suits that. 🤔🤷‍♂️

May still needs to find form so it’s likely not the best time to rest him.

Lever would only be playing if the club knows he is ready, we’re not the West Preston under12’s, we’re a professional sports club with serious and good people in charge of fitness and players health. If there was any doubt he’d be at Casey, especially since the overall health of our list atm.

Lever and May need games together and to find form if we’re going to beat the clubs we’ll need to beat to play finals. Personally I tend to trust the club on this. Goodwin even admitted that JVR’s one game reappearance wasn’t what they wanted at the time. He’s now taking marks at Casey and building form. TMac, at 30 odd, will be fine having a week off, he’s fit, in form and is being managed. Clearly the management is working because he is in great form.

Did you catch the Casey game ??

Let's say I would be careful on your next bet.

Yep like for like, absolutely NFI, however many years you’ve been watching footy, please put it on your tombstone

I care about the team and the club first and foremost. Would you rather Turner out at the expense of TMac?

If so, you're not looking at the bigger picture.

Lever straightens up our defence every time. As Jeff White's video showed, most fans don't understand the little things that most of iurplayers do to stay in the team. Spargo being one of them.

Lever marshalls our defence and is best 22.

Posters who don’t understand the little things, mate we have posters on here who absolutely don’t understand anything about the game since it moved on from kicking from contest to contest

I’m not expecting JVR back for at least a month. Today he took some marks which is more than his AFL form. He’s actually not one I’m worried about. Viney is the one that concerns me. 4 year contract, extended concussion layoff. He only knows how to play one way. I hope he’s ok largely for his sake but also the teams.

Indeed. I was trying to be diplomatic. 🤣

geez i would

may was decent last week - only the one brain fade on the goal line and i can't remember him stuffing up an exit d50 kick

as i think it was @Roost it far said, we need our best two tall defenders to get game time together

May is looking a bit tired. That's all. When he does...his game can drop at a great rate of knots.

All... I... am suggesting is he more than Tmac needs managing.

I want him there in Big games. He won't shine in all games. Oh that he could

Yes but I think he is carrying injuries.

Perhaps. Depends on how AJ (and Petty) go.

Also Jefferson breathing down people's necks, even though there again I'd try and give him a run of games at Casey, he seems to be building.

Based on today... that's laughable.

They were flower fertiliser until they decided to have a go.

Jeffo isn't AFL material. He's a very good vfl player.

VFL is very mediocre stuff.

If that is correct then most if not all our AFL Listed players are a bust??

Quite a bit.... ARE

The qualifier is not will or can they get an AFL game.... hundreds do... Can they be instrumental in adding to the team ??

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
