and hearing that newton started newton on the bench makes me wonder why ppl should say he is our next coach!

I don't think he's our next coach, but I think he'll make a pretty good Full Forward one day! :P

thats three weeks in a row Daniel Hayes has been in the best and practically BOG. whats everyones thoughts?

You will not find a bigger fan of Daniel Hayes than me, Hayes was the most talented player on the park when the reserves played IMO. BUT to say he was close to BOG today is bull, the things he does are spectacular and brilliant but he just isn't getting enough of it. He would of had about 15 Possessions today only, he just isn't running hard enough between the contests to have bigger impact on games. This is fine, it's all part of his development as he gains match fitness and works his way into the form. To put time limits and the such on when he has to be the Sandy Seniors especially when the players ahead of him are nearly all VFL Premiership players is all a bit silly. ,

That he better get his [censored] together and start repaying us the favour.

If he isn't getting a game in the seniors by the end of the year, I suggest he'll be on very shakey ground.

Seriously he gets payed 30K a year, it's not that big of a deal if he doesn't make it, it'll just be a bonus if he does...

Any of the MFC who played full games today are not likely to be considered for Friday night against the Tigers especially given it sounds like a hard slog today and a 5 day turn around.

Did any of the MFC players get benched for long lengths of time as maybe a pre planned preparation for Friday?

This has nothing to do with how much he gets paid. He is an MFC listed player, and that's all that matters.

And no, it won't be the end of the world if he doesn't make it, but there is nothing sadder than watching wasted potential.

I trust that we picked him up because we saw something in him, and we looked beyond the obvious problems that made other clubs not want to pick him up (despite some of the high ratings he got pre-draft).

Hopefully he can get himself right off the field, because there is no way he'll make the grade on skills alone.

We've had great success with rookies before... lets hope he is another good story.

how did 426 go?

Was in bests for hawks. I'm assuming that Smith is OUR Smith... sigh...

Though I shouldn't be sad. I'd take Juice ANY day over Smith. Younger, more talented, fasterm more skilled... etc etc.

Due to weather conditions I left at half time but had seen more than enough of an insipid performance!!

The number of times that we kicked to a contest of 1 vs 2 or even 3 was ridiculous.. we kicked across goal, we handballed when the simple thing would have been to bang it on the boot, we did not do the simple things correctly and for this we were well down...

the melbourne players were very ordinary today... whelan's kicking in in the first, then a missed shot on goal summed up his first half...

the number of tackles that were missed was also disgraceful - the hawks kept getting through tackle after tackle!!

also the manning up in the second quarter was deplorable - they had numerous loose men all over the park and yes, this can be considered cheating but when you have a dominant midfield, then....

brad miller - what to do with him? in the first half, he looked like he had not played football before as he ran under the ball and continuously got where the ball wasn't...

lynden dunn - was really disappointed with him today. the conditions did not favour him but he still struggled for impact and looked more keen to handball than kick!!

having said all of the above - numerous set shots were missed and they should probably have won but......

also, the level of umpiring today was as bad as I have seen for a very long time and also highlighted why you cannot have more.... the level of inconsistency between them was amazing - the hands in the back, the running over the mark when your opponent has taken a mark, the holding the ball rule and incorrect disposal, etc. As stated the Hawks would have received 13 - 2 in the first quarter and 5 goals from free kicks.... and the report of jace bode was interesting to say the least - no-one from box hill protested with him, so no-one in the crowd had any idea!!

are you sure your not mixing up the following people: Michael Newton (mfc listed tall forward, currently playing at sandy), leigh newton (ex mfc listed player, current media manager and part time ruck coach), and mark williams (current sandringham coach).

for good measure: mark williams (current port adelaide coach).

This guy sounds like a nut case.

Second report in 2 years.

Cameron Mooney must be certifiably insane.

Its really neither here nor there as I cant see Bode being considered for a further rookie year in 2008 and he is not good enough to be elevated.

I was watching him, has a terrible temper. There was a passage of play where he was too slow to get rid of th ball and he tried to get his kick away but stuffed it up and he just lied face down on the ground. Wasn't hurt or anything was just sooking like a baby and then the water girl came along to give him a drink and he threw his water bottle down in anger as Box Hill went down the other end and kicked a goal. I'm confident in saying he will not make the cut.

2 in 2 years? Oh my god! :o:rolleyes:

We should trade him to Freo.

Edit: Damn you Rhino, just beat me to it!

Well done Jaded.

You take the points. I thought 2 reports in 2 years is hardly nutcase material. From watching Bode play he's pretty much at the ball so I cant see the significance of his mental state being in question.

Madness, given the poor quality of the disposal of Sandy I would have had a terrible temper on the ground. I am glad a player is [censored] off when he makes a dumb error. For too many in the red & blue, a mistake is too often water off a ducks back!!

Nutcase on the footy field, RR...not off the field.

I know its not a Cam Mooney, David Rhys Jones rap sheet, but still pretty ordinary form from a bloke who should be savouring his last 9 or 10 games on a rookie list.

Juice Newton-started the game on the bench, looked lively once he came on, tackling and chasing was superb. Still, his continual

frivolous attempts at hangars, especially in the conditions today, were disappointing

given conditions maybe the hangers weren't the best idea, but newton has said that ND encourages him to keep flying

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
