You have figures to back that up?

Do i need figures?

You add a couple of percent to each pre season Pre Season year 22,23,24,25 and we are at 8 percent.

Factor into the mix we added no quality recruits in this time that made us a stronger footy team.

Mix this into your potion and stir nicely then stick that in to the calculations and their is your 2 percent yearly gradual drop off!

It may even be more.

We never improved this list like other teams in their windows.

We couldn't attract them with our facilities or weren't in a position to offer more money.

This is where we are living right now.

We've drafted well but couldn't capitalise on 2021 so we've started our regeneration from a higher base than the bottom this time round.

Given you’re the one making the claim and given that very detailed fitness and biometric data exists on every player in the AFL, yes.

But thanks for confirming that you have no such data to back up your assertion.

I'm not convinced it is fitness.

It’s not fitness.

On one of the footy shows someone made the comment that across the AFL all clubs do more or less the same thing and all players have more or less the same level of fitness.

People are just clutching at straws.

So some have more , some have less

I'm going with us having less. Certainly looks less and less compared to our better times

I very much doubt all teams are the same.

Do you have evidence and data to back that up??

Curious if have to back up this claim?

“Players have more or less the same level of fitness” but a bit less is worse than a bit more.

I’d say it’s not 100% fitness, we’re also out of position and chasing tail a lot which takes more out of you than being ahead of the ball. But we’re also not running on top of the ground and I think we need to move on from Selwyn.

No chance this is true, would have been a throw away line to back up some other agenda

Might be a stretch but @Ghostwriter and @Kev while watching the boys at training, have you heard from any staff or players why they've moved the main training session 1 day closer to game day?

The quantity might be similar but there is a world of difference with someone like Burgess who had our players believing they could play through pain and that their superior fitness attitude would see them run out games better than the opposition and that we did with regularity during 21 and 22

Some say we started breaking down early to mid 22 and that our game style plus Burgess is a brutal thing year on year. I guess we’ll watch Adelaide with interest although they’re playing fast transition as opposed to long, bash and crash.

I’m not sure it’s a permanent thing. I think it depends on what day of the week our game is scheduled and if interstate travel is involved, as well as when the shared facilities at AAMI are available, and they work around these factors. I can find out for sure though 👍🏽

I have noticed that numerous other clubs train during the afternoon, rather than first thing in the morning, which we mostly do. North are often out training at 6pm under lights.

For the sports science posters, what's the value/reasoning behind this?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
