Cal Twomey reporting that Trac is open to a move to Gold Coast

Firstly, good if true.
I wanted to comment more on Twomey. He needs to be careful with his presence because he is starting to become very McClure like. Earlier in the week it was Adelaide and nothing else. I get he probably has pressure from the executives to generate clicks and headlines, but not at the cost of his credibility. Im starting to take everything he says with a grain of salt now.

The point about Trac’s negotiating position is well made by a number on here.

The clubs in a very strong position .

Where Trac lands is in the clubs hands as are any negotiating terms.

IMO Bolton to Freo precedent last year should be the starting point for any suitors.

he just a naughty boy!🤗

I still have some funny stories that were never public. Funny but tell me if he was a fringe player he wouldn't have been exited.

Have a look at what was given for Trent Croad in the trade out of Hawthorn.

That is the kind of deal that would be needed.

Imo even if Tracc was disgruntled he is still the big game midfielder we were crying out for in the 80s and 90s and even 00s after Scott Thompson left.

We finally get someone of his status and a Norm Smith Medalist and we want to walk him for chips because he got as frustrated with the club as some supporters also were.

I say unless it's a Croad overs deal involving someone of the likes of Serong it's a no deal.

Do they have Morton Bay Bugs up there? That will be a sign.

Here's an estimate of the Suns Academy selections requirements this year with the new draft points scheme.

Here's the new draft points scheme (scroll to the bottom):
https://www.afl.com.au/news/1223455/the-draft-change-adding-another-element-to-upcoming-trade-frenzy

Here's Cal Twomey's September Draft Ranking that came out today, it's a ranking not a Phantom draft but I think it's the best guide we have on their players:
https://www.afl.com.au/news/1427257/cal-twomeys-phantom-form-guide-top-draft-prospects-september-ranking

2 - Zeke Uwland = 2481
4 - Dylan Patterson = 1962
26 - Beau Addinsall = 561
Total = 5004 with 10% discount 4504 points

Gold Coast's current Draft hand:
https://www.draftguru.com.au/years/2025/provisional-draft-order/final-before-draft

6 = 1659
13 = 1080
16 = 924
31 = 429
Total = 4092 points

Currently GC are short 412 points for their Academy players, that's equivalent to pick 31.

They really need to retain pick 6 or get greater pick value from trading it. They can get more points from trading Flanders to make up the deficit. People think they are the ideal trading partner for Petracca but that's simply not true, they're short of points.

IMHO Adelaide are a much better trading partner in a 3-way with GC, as suggested by @GS_1905 :

MFC - Out: Petracca + 23, In: 6 + Flanders
Adelaide - Out: 14 + 41 + F1st, In: Petracca
GC - Out: 6 + Flanders (1659pts), In: 14 + 23 + 41 + F1st (1915pts)

That gives GC very close to enough points to cover their Academy players with a very small 2026 deficit (all they need is for Uwland or Patterson to be bid a pick later and they're fine) and Adelaide's F1st for Flanders. I think the other two deals for MFC and Adelaide are pretty fair, I know some won't agree.

These are reasonable scenarios only if Tracc's contract is taken off our books.

We finished 14th with Trac, finishing last is no worse, if we are gunna rebuild now is the time, not in 2/3 years

Trac's not at his best yet. If he gets back to his best along with Oliver and if we pick up Flanders and Miochek we could make the 8. Without him we are rebuilding which means pain especially with Tassie coming in I don't think we can afford to rebuild.

Agree. Adelaide needs to take all or most of Trac's contract for 14 + 41 + F1. They're trying to buy a flag with that trade.

Don't lose him and just go rebuild mode because we don't need to and don't want to waste Max's last years, which are still looking bloody good!

Trac hasn’t been the difference this year in any of the games we have won. He played his role well most of the time but never ripped a game apart and willed us across the line as he has done in the past. Maybe he builds up to it next year or maybe he doesn’t , BUT he will not be the difference between us finishing 14th and last. That’s just absurd.

What's absurd is your trades it doesn't benefit us at all. To say Petracca doesn't make a difference is just stupid. He's our second best player. It doesn't bother me because thankfully your not making the decisions. My concern is Lamb. He's proven that he just wants to get deals done even if that don't benefit us like giving away second rounders for Frost and McAdam. I trust Taylor I don't trust Lamb.

That was almost 25 years ago!!

Should we reference what we got from Carlton for Barassi as well?

The Trent Croad precedent for a Petracca trade has blown my little Demonland mind.

Greg Wells’ defection to Carlton in 1980 was closer in time to Trent Croad’s trade than Petracca’s potential trade is 🤯

Have been watching some highlights of our 2021 season on Utube and it was a good reminder of how fantastic Trac and Clarrie were at that time. It also highlighted how important Charlie Spargo was as a small forward. Sad that there has been such a relatively rapid decline.

If you can believe Welsh, then Essendon aren't trading Merrett, which means Hawthorn will come at Petracca. GC and Hawthorn have reasonable trade hands. So we should be well compensated should we trade Petracca.

I don't think anyone would turn down 14 and a future 1st.

I'm not so sure.

Both of those picks could easily end up in the 20s. Surely we can do better than that for trac.

I would.

14 is really 20ish in a weak draft and they wont finish low net year so another pick 14-20ish.

No where good enough, Would take a pick 5 and another around 14 for me to look at it and then i'd still say no.

In this draft it's unders, it's not a terrible deal but pick 14 will be pushed into the second round.

and if they win the flag next year you might get 2 x 20's picks.

It's hard though because no contender is going to want to give up any players either, so i mean they can only offer what they've got.

I can't see how this deal possibly gets done to the Crows without a third team becoming involved.

I would. 14 would end up being pick 20ish in a shallow draft. A future first would also not be crash hot if you think Adelaide are going to finish in a similar position next year.

In recent years our picks in the teens have gotten us Tholstrup, Jefferson and Laurie.

We aint getting pick 5 Gorg.

As long as they are taking all of his salary I think this is probably the best we can hope for.

A lot of copying and pasting going on.

This board is the only area I've seen emphatic disagreement on this today so that probably says a lot.

I agree.

But if the decision is to move him on then it's unlikely to get better than this.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #44 Luker Kentfield

    An exciting young key forward, Kentfield was selected in the 2024 mid-season draft but has yet to make his AFL debut. He was sidelined by a severe bout of pneumonia over the summer, which consequently limited his pre-season. Upon his return a month into the season, he commenced in defence but ultimately impressed with his progress at Casey, particularly in the latter part of the season as a strong marking goal kicking forward.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

    Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

    Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

    Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.
