They came out in drips and drabs. Mostly seemed paired with another. AJ Henderson, Fullarton, Melksham, Woey, Brown, Turner, Laurie, Sestan, Jeffo running, quite a few in runners.

The main group with kick to kick, whistle goes and drills start.

The kicking drill executed at a high standard. Walking handball, flick around of the ball.

Plenty of team running, though at a subdued speed.

Tholstrup and Mentha a chance, as is Windsor. Great to see McVee in with the squad.

Lindsay into rehab, testing and personal program.

Melky up and running.

Culley, and Kentfield filling numbers at the moment.

Big thanks to Kev Martin as well really appreciate these training reports and insights, we’d be lost without you.

I love that Goodwin decided the players were allowed to train less this off season...looks like its worked a treat.

Certainly doesn’t look too good now ….. but it is a long season. (Was hoping 5 weeks longer than last)

I took most of the off season off myself.

Is that fact or just speculation?

If correct surely he only backed it off for the older fellas in the group? That would make sense and pretty sure other clubs manage their senior players this way too.

Our senior players have been our worst offenders so...

Forest for the trees people....at current rate AFL will not involve body contact or even possessing the ball in 15 years.

Goody a master coach, always ahead of his time

Strange that all the players mentioned that it was a gruelling preseason and that they were feeling really fit. All players have their own individual programs based on the number of sessions completed and our fitness team have a much much better idea of individual and team fitness.👍😳

I don’t think fitness is the problem. Injuries haven’t helped and nothing tires you out faster than getting smacked. It’s likely not helped by the fact we’re still not playing to our new game plan. There’s a little of the headless chook about us atm which is also draining.

It's actually a lot of our senior players who are letting us down atm. Trac I will give some grace to given he is coming back from a life threatening injury, so it may take some time before he is fully confident in his abilities again. Viney has been atrocious and genuienly should be up to be dropped atm. Maxy is struggling to impact games. Fritsch we know about. Langdon is a bit lost in his new role it seems. May can no longer kick so why he still takes kick outs is beyond me.

We will be ready if a game of soccer ever breaks out. I'll back us in.

I also think some handball practise would help. Rivers needs it. Maybe practise our kicking? As long as it doesn't interfere with the soccer that is.

Rivers missed his hand when handballing, how does this happen?

IKR. I've never seen a player have a fresh-airey when attempting a handball. Wild scenes.

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
