So the jury is in on this boondoggle.

Watching the news last night I noted many empty seats. Were the fans out the back buying overpriced food and drinks.?

No. They just didn't turn up. 25,300 for a so called 40K seating stadium.

Disgraceful  and I repeat my view it's just too expensive for ordinary geelong folk.

Great fun for the elites though.

I'm not sure what you were expecting with respect to the crowd. We don't get capacity crowds at the MCG when we play Fremantle, either. (And a lot of taxpayer dollars have helped the MCG over the years.)

Given the single team town and state of the art stadium 62% full is pathetic.

To be fair it was 36 degrees.

Word is the government will be giving the Cats a multimillion dollar grant to install temporary portable fans into each seat next year with a further billion dollars to be spent on permanent AC units in each seat before the decade is out.

Geelong was comfortable yesterday. Overcast.  I was down for the day.

It has been 20 years since Geelong had fewer than ten wins in a season, and they've only missed finals three times in that period.

With that sustained success to build a following, 25k to open the season on a pleasant day against another serious team at a custom-built boutique modern stadium with no free-to-air option competing is pretty weak.

Given the money they’ve pumped into this, why don’t they share their stadium with our co-tenants and give our MCG back to us

Can i just say that “I really Hate Jeeelong”

How can they Pay that List? Before we even start on Tax Dodge Stadium

lousy Stinking Bastards….

MCG - home to how many teams, pls cricket.

KP - one team, dysmorphic shaped ground.

More to come in terms of taxpayer dollars for the Kitties.

KP Trust wants to add more concerts, etc to the venue, so they will have to move the Cats to a new training base, area.....guess where the money will be coming from with a State election due next year?

..."The Cats and other community sports are also lobbying the federal government to build a shared multi-purpose indoor training facility alongside GMHBA Stadium. They have already invested heavily in new rooms for their women’s team inside the stadium and upgraded their football department and gym inside the venue."

Will absolutely guarantee they will get it up and running before we even dig the first sod at Caulfield

Is there a way they can invest in the dimensions of the ground so it is an actual football OVAL?

Send all their other home games to Docklands instead of the G - that would force their hand.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
