Two things:

1. I think 'Love' was an outcome of the review, or Bright, or both, and, like politicians keeping to 'talking points', Simon's getting it in there wherever he can, strictly relevant or not. Nonetheless, a great thing, particularly in a macho environment.

2. His hairline genetics are catching up with him...

So what are the expectations?
seems like a lot of fluff and need to keep the Oliver & Trac in house not for public domain… interesting season coming up along with Green comments on Pickett

for those who accuse the club of 'waffle', these media appearances are part of the new agreement between head office and the people who pay a small fortune to telecast, broadcast, and promote the game

get used to it cos it ain't going to change in the foreseeable future - if anything, the media will demand that the clubs and their proxies - president, coach, and players - provide more content to feed the hungry beast

bring on the season i say

Unless the offseason was much shorter there's always gonna be lots of anticipation by now. Unfortunately footy fans want to hear stuff as we approach the first real game. I'm not sure it's a good idea for football clubs to go completely silent over summer. And take note the Goody interview is one of many Ch7 are doing with clubs at the moment.

If the PR isn't complete BS I'm fine with it. For at least another week clubs can't 'talk' so this is the main thing they can do. Besides I'm sure more people buy memberships after hearing all the fluff compared to when the last message over summer was "Merry Christmas"

And BTW: the three wasted years? I know we didn't win the flag and that was very disappointing. But I would go along and watch each week – did you? – And there was a lot of joy in singing the song after the multiple wins we had in 2022 and 2023.

Given one in eighteen is a pretty small proportion (rounding down) virtually no team wins a flag. Of course one must win but it's a big challenge and stats suggest flags normally are few and far between. I agree completely with your post. Maybe I could have refused to watch Melbourne again circa 1982 until some alerted me we were 9 goals up in the grand final. But that would mean I'm not a real supporter , or even a footy fan. While there's been frustration the last three years has been among the most three-year periods since the mid60s. Most teams would envy us

I must have missed all those opportunities we had to let our actions do the talking during the off season

Bright is one of the most loveliest spots to visit.

It sounds like it wasn't about football & it was about sitting around with everyone getting things off their chest.

Whatever works & it sounds like things got solved.

But gee, we are going to be heavily watched & scrutinised this season. The media are going to be fascinated with how we go this season

Yeah, maybe, but you’re just one supporter who is probably more committed than most (as are we all here on Demonland), being a regular contributor to a footy forum. However, Goodwin has to get a message across to thousands of supporters and potential members, who just want to be reassured that the club is in a good place. It’s necessary for him to do these puff pieces, so just be happy that they’re currently putting the club in a good light.

There will be plenty of opportunities to get his message across. Goody has committed to appear fortnightly on AFL 360, according to the HS.

From the HeraldSun:

Few coaches have ridden the “rollercoaster” of emotions across the past five seasons as Goodwin, and AFL 360 viewers will have front row seats to what comes next.

Goodwin has agreed to join the show every two weeks, a marked departure from recent years when he chose to do few media appearances other than his mandated ones.

“This is important to him,” Lyon said. “He had been through a rollercoaster, professional and probably personal.

“I think this is about the coach (as a person), as opposed to the Melbourne Football Club coach. Just to talk about coaching and the pressure and where it can take you in the highest of moments and where it can take you in the darkest of moments.

“He knows it is not conditional on appearing on the show; it is unconditional. If you are 13-zip, you are going to be sprinting in here so fast that it is not going to matter, but if you are 4-9, you still have to come in. That is the commitment you have made.”

Whateley was excited to see what would unfold for Goodwin and for Melbourne in 2025.

“There is a degree of trust that he has shown in us and we value that to the extreme,” Whateley said.

“I always think the show has been good about creating a safe environment to come in and tell your story and we will continue that.”

Lyon added: “You are not going to come in here and get stitched up … but you are not coming in for an easy ride either.”

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom
