I reckon that was Jeffo's first ever pre-season game in the 1's against AFL opposition, in previous years he's been in the VFL squad

Yep. Spot on.

One of the positives of the day was Tom Campbell. Held his own against one of last yearโ€™s best ruckman in the AFL in Xerri. Also showed unexpectedly competent skills for a ruck, highlighted by some quality set shots at goal.

Itโ€™s reassuring to know that if Max has a niggle, we can rest him with the knowledge that we have a secondary ruckman that will be competitive. Weโ€™re (touch wood) clearly not having a repeat of the Freo debacle last year when the game was over before it started re: conceding hit out and clearance dominance.

Lastly, sounds like heโ€™s has a great pre season, looks fit for his age and by all reports is a cracking bloke.

Looks to have good synergy already with the midfield group too, which is fantastic. It took Grundy along time to have that connection but TC appears to have it already.

Do we have any update regarding AMW?

Jagga has done an ACL from what appeared to be a far less nasty entanglement than poor Andyโ€™s.

Nothing yetโ€ฆ Iโ€™m guessing we will hear something soon.

Fingers crossed it isnโ€™t an ACL.

Didn't look great at all. Hoping for a bit of a miracle.

Awww thanks Lex. ย Thatโ€™s exactly why I needed to share this. These are things you donโ€™t know are happening because who would report on a story like theirs? No scandal, no misbehaviour, nothing sensational therefore whoโ€™s gonna read it?

As for cute, it took every fibre of my being to resist scooping Nan up and running off with her under my arm when no one was looking. Iโ€™d put her in my backpack (wouldnโ€™t even need to fold her in half) and sheโ€™d soon settle in with me and my chooks in St Albans. Seriously though, she actually thanked me for making her feel so welcome in my town. ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน

Haha, chooks! That's as St Albans as it gets! Explains your baseball bat post a while ago ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคฃ

This is probably partly why he was feeling the pressure, the weight of expectation. Late in the game he was in the goal-square and play was up the other end. We were yelling encouragement to him but a little more than we would had it been anyone else because you could see he was down on himself. He looked around at us and tried to smile. I said โ€œYouโ€™re doing so well, Matty!โ€ But he shook his head as in, no Iโ€™m not. He needs as much of a confidence boost as possible. Idk if itโ€™s been mentioned on here before but at training the biggest and loudest cheers coming from the boys can be heard when itโ€™s Jeffo whoโ€™s just slotted one. They get around him like nothing else, especially Max.ย

If it is season ending, I would be approaching the AFL to replace him, as it is unfair that the SSP end was in the middle of a round of match sims. All sims should be completed before the cut off date, or none of them. There is obviously more chance of injury in contact games, than training.

Good call 'Redleg'...ahead of the game with this one.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

โ€œMax Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.โ€ - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasnโ€™t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus Oโ€™Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, thereโ€™s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demonsโ€™ poor use of the football, itโ€™s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbellโ€™s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
