Don't we also have another up and coming NGA player in the same year as Prasad?

Not that I am well aware of yet? We could? Might not be noted in the same bracket as Prasad but the last few years we have in fact had NGA prospect for a number of years in a row now.

Idk if it’s been mentioned on here already but the players have four days off which is why there’s no training session today. They’ll be back at Gosch’s on Wednesday.

A large number of Malaysians consider themselves ethnic Chinese. Similarly, others in a number of countries that border on mainland China.

Where else would his Chinese mother be born????

Australia, for one example.

Half of my siblings were born in Australia and half in Ireland, all to the same two Irish parents. My siblings born in Australia are as Irish as the rest of us. Ie, your ethnicity isn’t always based on where you were born.

There’s only 24 hours in a day. That’s not nearly enough time to stalk, I mean, check in on an entire team.

Disclaimer: to no one in particular but just in case it’s needed… I don’t really stalk the players nor do I make light of stalking in general. This is a long-running joke on here.

I’m not sure about NGAs (I haven’t been able to find any lists of NGAs) but we have Ryder Brown and Marley Davey coming up as father/son players although they aren’t draft eligible until at least 2027.

On Marcus Prasad, at last report he’s 169cm but slight in build but considered freakish. I hope he grows in both height and weight by the time he gets to draft age.

Scouting Notes: 2024 Victorian Under 16 trials

#1 Marcus Prasad (Dandenong Stingrays)
Small Forward | 169cm | 23/03/2008

Skipper in game two, Prasad was one of the many crafty smalls on show throughout the day. His best play was a terrific finish on goal during the second quarter, where he squeezed the ball just inside the post with a low spearing kick. Prasad’s creativity was evident and he took a high mark in term four to add to his moments.

It seems that a number of clubs, including Melbourne, had today off.

It would appear that preseason resumes on Wednesday.

They’ve had the weekend off, as well as today and tomorrow. Back at Gosch’s on Wednesday 👍🏽

The point is the parent needs to be born in the country to qualify for NGA. Nothing to do with how they consider themselves or how an individual bases their ethnicity. Somebody born in Oz but who consider themselves Chinese because of there background wont pass.

Yes, I know this. But your question to me was where else would his Chinese mother be born? That question was asked in reply to me saying his Chinese mother was actually born in China (as opposed to his Chinese mother who was born in Australia for example). Folks on here replied to the effect that she could’ve been born anywhere, but still be Chinese.

if your born in Australia and live in Australia your Australian, your not Chinese. You are Australian with Chinese a background.

While I agree with you on a base level and in this case think your comments are fair, I'd say the commentary has centered more around the disambiguation between being ethnically Chinese, and Chinese by nationality - as both groups form part of the Chinese diaspora. The identity issue pertaining to being 'Chinese' ('Sino'), is more complicated than it is with many other nationalities and ethnicities.

I may consider myself a Martian, it does not make me one. 🙂

I imagine one could be born anywhere and become a naturalised Chinese.

My grandmother was born in Romania and grew up there but I'd be surprised if more than half the family knows or remembers this.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom
