It's great to feel excited about footy again!

At least until round 1!

Last season we didn’t get the chance to be excited even before round one. Playing Sydney in Sydney was a terrible way to start the season. I wasn’t surprised we lost. Not to mention having to fork out for flights and accommodation, and our cheer squad had to sit in the corner pocket because Sydney members sit behind the away goals. Plus the majority of Dees supporters couldn’t attend. And it made me so angry that the AFL scheduled it this way to hype up the Grundy vs Gawn thing. A loss in the first game played is huge.

Thank goodness we’re not part of the ridiculous Opening Round this year.

Hey there! Which one of us hurt you?

It doesn’t surprise me that someone who claims ‘they don’t read replies or reactions’ on an online supporter forum of the one club diminishes the benefits of connection, communication, and, lol, perspective.

Sheesh!

One thing is certain rpfc, greenwaves does read the replies. It's OK greenwaves we are not all here to hurt you.

I was so excited (as I'm based in Sydney) to make that game and sit with the you and the rest of the lovely Demon Army!  Except then I had to work while at the game and when I was finally free in the final quarter, we fell off the cliff 🥲

To remove "now" about living in Sydney... it's been 3 years, I should get over my denial haha

It was lovely seeing you there and not just because you brought delish cake you’d made 😅 I wish you still lived in Melb.

Likewise!  And glad that my bribery by cake works haha

Also don't worry GW, I still live in Melbourne in my mind 😂  Accidentally even said to a waiter the other day that my friend "was visiting us in Melbourne from... Melbourne" which caused said friend and waiter to stare at me in concern

Completely agree

Not to mention having only Oct-Feb off as opposed to Sept-Mar this time

Huge difference

Some of that is fair. But I'm not sure we can complain about merely having an interstate game first up. While I hate how Collingwood play less interstate games and we always seem to be fixtured for away games against Geelong and West Coast every year only some teams can get a cushy easing into the year and some teams will have to face daunting teams early.

It's always interesting when someone volunteers information they don't have to. After games coaches can't admit that actually their team is hopeless and instead have to diplomatically use cliches to keep the supporter base happy. But it was telling that after maybe 2019 Nathan Jones repeated how much faith he had in our team and thus would keep playing. I had my doubts but 20 months later the team was purring along so nicely he couldn't get a game. These player comments don't promise miracles but they're a very good sign.

It's amazing how similar all three articles are.

That's the future of text based media - aggregated news siphoned from other sites and AI generated  articles.

Well there was always the option - in the old days, of reading Jack Dyer's "Dyer'ere" articles in The Truth...

“Bribery by cake”  that’s the lawyer in you 😂 if ever I’m up on a murder charge for *taking out, say for example, an Essendon supporter, I want you to defend me in court.

* don’t worry… it would definitely be by accident

You and I might need Redleg to defend (I believe he's a barrister?).  I'm a humble solicitor, churning in the contract mines. We'll not go far together in court, I fear, GW!  As much as I would say you're innocent... surely being a bomber supporter is considered provocation haha

According to Jack Viney, the foundation for Melbourne’s coming resurgence began at the pre-season camp at Bright, which focused heavily on the players’ connection, perspective and communication.

Dees star reveals ‘robust discussions’ after turmoil of 2024

“Melbourne veteran hard nut Jack Viney says the club’s decision to prioritise player connection and team bonding has allowed it to overcome last year’s problems.

“The Demons’ culture was heavily questioned as midfield superstars Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca weighed up their futures at the club last season.

“But best-and-fairest winner Viney, who ran a personal best 2km time trial over summer, said the Demons had changed their approach with the help of mindset master Ben Crowe”.

I am really glad this has happened, after last year it is exactly what was needed.
The Football Department look each other in the eyes and lay it all out in front of everyone, every one gets a chance to have their say.
Last year we sporadically played some good games, but the team wasn’t playing as one. Players were trying, but they were playing as 22 individuals

A few things need to go our way this year, a few players need to “Step up and improve” and play that way each week

If the attitude is Team Oriented and they really meant it. we have the Talent to be a serious contender

Fritsch and JVR need to be the core of a cohesive forward line, for starters.
The Players have to be hard on themselves (walk the talk)

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
