Remove the goal from the boundary and there wasn't really much to get excited about. Some of the negatives may be able to be coached out in an elite environment, such as the lack of composure and rush to constantly move the ball on. However, he seems to be somewhat limited largely due to his lack of size, which of course is not fault of his own. I'm echoing the thoughts of several above, but his inability to take the ball at the first touch, keep his feet and his general ball usage leaves a lot to be desired.

Initially I thought he seemed to lack penetration on his kicking, but after rewatching the highlights reel I actually think he has a nice action and was able to deliver some very nice and neat passes. Also somewhat paradoxically to what I've mentioned above, I have to give some credit for his ability to keep the ball moving and generate a context.

I'm kind of unsure on where to sit at the moment. On the one hand, he has some nice traits; but equally, there's a few marks against particularly with reference to his size and composure.

I'm interested to see how he develops over the season, though I'm leaning more towards him being a rookie prospect at best on his current output.

Not sure where he sits in the grand scheme of things draft wise but I liked his highlights. Seemed to be on the move at the contest, uses his body well for his size and had good vision to find team mates with quick release handballs. Works up the ground as well so not just a goal sneak. I see what you're saying with composure with some of those handballs a bit untidy, and his size is perhaps a limitation. Looks to have pace but not sure exactly how quick. Not bad for round 1 of the Coates league in my opinion and well worth keeping an eye on.

Yeah agree with you, it's early and there's no reason he can't develop and tidy up some of the potential shortcomings. He does appear to cover ground too which would fit in with King's current appetite for quick ball movement and a steer away from our traditional contested game. I'll be keeping an eye on him and should he be drafted, I'd be interested to see where that would be.

Prasad is averaging 16.5 disposals, 3 marks, 4.5 tackles and has kicked 9 goals in 8 games. He has very good skills, applies pressure and has a strong football IQ.

I'm sure Melbourne are keeping a close eye on him. Below is a glowing summary of his last game at TAC Cup level and a reference to his overall consistency across the season. https://central.rookieme.com/afl/2025/06/04/scouting-notes-2025-coates-talent-league-round-9/

"The bottom-aged small just continues to get it done week in, week out, checking all the boxes required of a modern day forward. Prasad was hot on the footy, comfortable going against bigger bodies at ground level and in the air to gain possession. He also pressured fiercely around the contest, laying an equal team-high eight tackles. Prasad finished the day with three straight majors, one from a smart run at a forward 50 stoppage, another from a contested mark deep insider 50, and the last by catching an opponent holding the ball near the square."

Jett Flower a better prospect from my intel!

We don’t have access to Marcus. Read the latest code sports article. Also on the main draft page on Bigfooty.

We're not having much luck when it comes to the NGA rules.

I wonder if Corey Ah-Mu is actually tied to us as well or will go the way of his brother and be "in our NGA" but without the priority access.

Anyone with Twitter care to ask Twomey about Prasads and Ah-Mu's status? About the only one I trust to have accurate information on the matter.

tbh, it's much less relevant these days with the changes to the rules and the points required to select a stand-out player

take the pear as an example - dougie cochrane is supposed to be the best tall forward in this year's draft crop, but it's going to take a big accumulation of points gathered through trades of the likes of butters for them to claim him

it's not the 'freebie' that it was for the likes of the bears, gc17, or the filth in years gone by

Already been posted, but:

Dandenong dazzler

Powerful Dandenong Stingrays forward/midfielder Jackson Phillips has been one to pop early in 2026.

His athleticism, competitiveness and skill have been on full display in both of Dandenong's wins to start the season.

A 19-disposal, two-goal Round 1 outing was backed up by a game-high 27 disposals against Gippsland where his dual threat as an inside-outside mover set him apart.

Meanwhile, Stingrays teammate Marcus Prasad has also had moments in the early rounds as a lively forward.

Contrary to some reports, the Vic Country U16s representative is not tied to Melbourne through the club's Next Generation Academy.

Jonty Ralphsmith does a bit of draft work so I do wonder whether he has confirmed with the club. He follows it fairly closely.

But then you would think HS would also have confirmed with the club as well?

Yeah it's a bit strange, I did a quick look and there's varying mentions of him over the past two weeks from various footy outlets and even across the same outlet, depending on the report some tie him to us while others don't.

It would be great to actually get some clarity around this and understand the reason. Bit of a guestimate, but I'm thinking potentially we lost access with the rezoning of the Mornington Peninsula area to StK.

Thanks, looking forward to Kosy playing mid/forward with Prasad.

Talking about players coming through we have a heap playing under 15's ATM. I often look at this article from April'25.

Melbourne Academy | Players to watch

Oliver Green, Tex Robertson, Tigga Johnstone, Max McDonald - Father/Sons.

Academy - Al - Ziggy Tiltsen-Collins, Mitch Liddle, Eric Junior Campbell.

Have a read. If a few of that lot come up trumps we will go ok.

Then there is Marley Davey and the White twins later.

I'd pay to see Marley Davey & the White Twins!

So we had him and now we don’t. The system is a tad ridiculous.

yet to get an understanding on what qualified/disqualified him, was it simply the zone change? what is he background or reason for innitial inclusion

Another 2 goals and 23 disposals for Prasad.

Sounds like we won't have access to him but worth keeping an eye on regardless.

Corey Ah-Mu also listed in the bests again as a bottom aged player.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
