7 listed players still out of contract (no news):

  • Dethridge

  • O'Herir

  • Goldrick

  • Hose

  • Mahony

  • Mackin (Aimee)

  • Paxman

We had 2 extras on the list (due to two inactive players.

We currently have 5 out (Colvin, Zanker, Taylor, Johnson, Rigoni) and 2 in (Mia Austin, Aoife …..

So with the two year contract for draftees rule, O’Hehir and Dethridge are on till the end of ‘26. You’d think Goldie, Hose and Mahony aren’t going anywhere. Which really only leaves Aimee Mackin, who someone said wasn’t coming back, and Paxy.

So, assuming the 2024 draftees are all retained, we're thinking it's pretty much down to Paxy or A.Mackin for that last list spot? You'd have to think we've delisted Aimee without announcing it til the last minute (like whatever's happened with Rigoni) rather than a club legend retiring with nary a whisper. But stranger things have happened, I guess.

From demonwiki.org

At the end of the season, Paxman signed a contract extension to the end of 2026, and played all 15 matches of Melbourne's 2025 campaign.

Again the lack of coach and dedicated list management boss seem problematic here.

We have a number of older players showing obvious signs of decline or reduced durability (Paxman, Lampard and Goldrick to name three, and Pearce has also had issues in previous years).

If that is impacting our ability to recruit and retain the next generation, somebody needs to be prepared to make some hard calls, because we don't yet have a list that can genuinely compete for premierships.

Clearly I (and others!) completely forgot that this happened.

So one free list spot, two draft picks we presumably intend to use and two out of contract players, Goldrick and A.Mackin?

What, I cannot believe rigoni is joining the filth.

So our father/daughter didn't work out well then.

I thought she showed promise

The 30 list spots makes it pretty cutthroat for players like Rigoni on the fringe, especially in a year where we're consolidating rather than trying to turn the list over and have a lot of young players already. I do wonder if she'll get more games at the Pies than she might have with us in 2026 - watch me rue this comment in the next injury crisis...

Yeah also did a search and Hose signed til 2026 too.

So actually with Paxy, Hose, Mahony, Dethridge, and O'Hehir all contracted til end of 2026 (with draftees getting 2 years and Paxy and Hose being extended), Goldrick and Mackin are the only out of contracts.

Mackin possible retirement? You'd think Goldy gets the nod ahead of Rigoni.

I guess Aimee's delisted and they just haven't announced it? Assuming Goldy is playing on.

Would have thought Goldy be locked in by now. She's a driving force for us off half back

Blaithin did mention to me at the Best and Fairest that she is still weighing up whether she's going to come back next season or stay in Ireland. I guess she's a case of watch this space. She did say Goldie definitely wants to come back. At the moment half the team are in Europe for Goldie's wedding.

Being in last years draft pool Dethridge, O’Hehir and Mahoney should all be in the ‘26 column R & B

According to Megs and Demonwiki Paxy signed a contract till the end of ‘26 as did Hose
