Jared Rivers out for the season?

Featured Replies

What happened to his back pain problem? Was this just a cover-up for a much more serious problem? Where's Whelan? What is going on!?

Just when I thought surely Rivers couldn't be too far off... :(

Hayes has been banished from the club for not turning up to training.

Weetra has a broken wrist, and is already on the senior list.

We haven't got a rookie who could actually come in and help us. Perhaps Neaves, but highly unlikely.

what about Danny Hughes?

Seriously Guys.........Bohdan needs to be shown the door at the end of the season

Agree with you there Super Demon, and with Yze Magic. Many have jumped down his throat for being so cynical of BB, but it isn't just coincidence that the year he arrives, is the year we have a really bad run with injuries. Already with the scalps of the Hawks and to a lesser extent the bummers, he can proudly add Melbourne's 2007 season to his highly credentialed resume.

This season is one sick joke that just gets worse and worse. I'm getting friggen sick and tired of hearing another player being added to the injury list, i've never seen such a frustrating year.

Yeah, way to go guys. Blame the latest guy on the scene. Same thing happened to the Bullies last year, and I didn't hear them bitching about it. Just got on with the job and had a bloody good year. Stop looking for scape goats!

hopefully this is truthful and we can all feel silly. i also hope those of you who threatened drastic self mutilation at least waited!

Hmmm.

Well I would certainly storm the Ch.10 offices and demand my wrist vains back if their report turns out to be [censored].

Either way, I've changed the title of the thread as to not frighten people off.

does that imply that you would be surprised that a media outlet didn't tell the truth?

No one is looking for a scapegoat

Just look at his recent history at Hawthorn.........and now with us

He is probably a really nice guy

IMHO We need to cast the net as wide as possible and try and recruit someone who has the runs on the board at AFL level

Thoughts?

Neaves would be a good promotion, in rucking terms he's already in front of both Jamar and Johnson. Would be good to leave White in the forwrd line and rotate the other two to have a real good look at them, a really positive development move, but we all know it won't happen.

I'd rather play PJ and White and make room for other young guys to get game time before drafting Neaves in.

Poor old man Riv....

Well... more of the MFC masterplan falls into place... we're a step closer to pick one...

*rubs hands and cackles maniacally*

Either way there are two ways to look at this.....

If it is true and he has a serious (or long term) injury then leave him out for the season, and let him do what he needs to do to be right for 2008.

If Channel 10 is wrong (which would be shocking, truly) then he will be back only if and when he is ready and hopefully not before. No point rushing.

And we can either cry in our hands or breath a sigh of relief ;) !!!

Most of the posters on here agree that our season is shot and that we should be trying to develop young kids.

While it's never good to have quality players injured I'd rather Rivers miss this year than any other. It probably opens the door for a guy like Frawley to get some game time.

While it's disappointing for Rivers, the Club, and the fans not to see him playing it's not all bad and as long as his long-term future isn't in trouble I'm not too disappointed.

the guy who WAS at st kilda a few years, and is currently at the melbourne storm is a ripper

good luck to rivers, but even better luck to frawley, who should get some good game time out of this

Why is there nothing about it in the paper today?

Just look at his recent history at Hawthorn.........and now with us

What recent history at Hawthorn exactly?

Which players injured, what injuries, which years, which matches missed?

I've asked for this evidence before but no-one seems to have it.

Just some BigFooty and HawkHeadquarters hearsay.

"Most of the posters on here agree that our season is shot and that we should be trying to develop young kids."

We all agree on this, but the club/coach has not conceded it yet bc we can still "mathematically make it." Wondering at what point they will come out and say the seasons's shot, we've got a youth policy now and are trying to get things right for 08. If we win this week, I can't see it happening.

Also, how do you get those fancy quote things to work?

The most amusing thing Old, is that when our board discussed BB with the Hawks' board, the Hawks made it very clear to us that they did not blame BB for the injuries during his time at the Hawks. Some posters here will say that it would be in the interest of the Hawks' board to offload BB to the Demons, but I'd like to point out that BB was already 12 months out of contract when the Demons did their due diligence. The MFC board covered all angles and did not discover any correlation between BB and the spate of injuries at the Hawks.

BF and HQ, and then a poster who'll remained nameless from Demonology, started the crap about BB, and it has stuck. Something that might be stuck with BB for the rest of his career.

...as for Rivers, let me throw at you guys another rumour, one which you might feel is more palatable. He has excess fluid in his lower back which is effecting his hamstrings.

Sounds painful, but not nearly as painful as OP.

Now, your words vs. the word of Ch.10... ohhh, that's a toughie

Im really concerend about this. Bell, Moloney, Sylvia and now rivers have all suffered from OP. I think due to moloneys injuries he will never be as good as he promised when he was at geelong. I dont understand why the MFC players are injured

Bell is over his OP. Having a stellar season.

Moloney was a gamble and it didn't pay off. He had history of OP.

Colin, like Bell, will get through his OP. I guess unlike most, i'm confident of that.

And as for Rivers occo, it is only a rumour he is suffering from OP, so don't get yourself down on it.

A rumour repeated on 10's Sports Tonight at 11.00 last night as if it was fact, despite the clear statement on the MFC website.

Do you think he'll never get over his OP?

Is it really that bad, despite him playing the entire 2005 season and finishing top 5 in our B&F?

Careful Maurie.

I remember watching Kerrie Ann...er I mean Tim Webster on Sports Tonight some years ago announce that Nathan Buckley resigns from Collingwood. I was surprised at the time when I saw that.

It was a red faced Webster who announced half an hour later that Buckley had re - signed with Collingwood!

Caveat Emptor.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
