Hnmm interesting!

Mid week tackle also said Kosi is leaving.

I’m not saying Judd has signed, but let’s stop taking these journalists seriously. There’s a tiny handful worth their weight, these clowns are not it.

Judd isn’t entertaining other offers, so what is he doing? Consulting his spiritual healer?

Lever got dropped and they were like, 1+1 is 3. Please. They’re laughable.

And this great season keeps on giving.

Happy days.

Can anyone elaborate ?

( what's behind the wall please )

The article covers the fact that early on Guerra backed the coach to continue in 2026 however there has been a “mood for change across the board at Melbourne” that could extend to the coach if the winless streak continues.

Other points of note:

  • we have 13 players about to be 30 or older when round 1 starts next season.

  • Steve Smith arrives back early August

  • Demons happy with the move of trading for Lindsay

  • Believes we have a gap of quality between ages 24-28 aside from Kozzie.

  • Club is likely to be open to an Oliver trade.

Take this with a grain of salt as it is Jon Ralph who wrote the article.

Lever felt "blindsided"! An indictment on the coach if he didn't communicate it properly, but it is just extraordinary that he felt so safe despite having played such ordinary footy for so much of the past few seasons. Our cultural issues in a nutshell.

Losing McVee would be another hammer blow too. We'd struggle to get a pick inside the top 25 given the role he plays, even though he's worth far more than that. Will be an elite rebounding defender in the coming years.

On another note, which the Sun brought up in their McVee article, the decision to hire Nathan Bassett and shoehorn Chaplin into the forward line has been a disaster.

Bassett was an assistant coach at the Bombers until 2015, then at Port until 2023 where he was let go. He then went to Norwood as "coaching coordinator".

Reading between the lines, we had the best defence in the league from 2021 - 2023 and were close to the best in 2024.

Chaplin, meanwhile, was our forward coach early in his time here when we were poor offensively in 2017. He was shifted back in 2018, when our unusual ploy to run off half back at stoppages led to the 6-6-6 rule being introduced and took us deep into finals.

He's now been shifted forward again to make space for a bloke who coached two teams who were notoriously poor defensively.

So what are his credentials?

210 games played alongside Simon Goodwin, and a stint coaching alongside him under James Hird where a number of guys lost their careers due to malpractice.

It stinks. It absolutely [censored] stinks.

So Simon not only playing his favourites but also getting his favourite assistants? Not good.

One point, we are not in crisis yet, 4/5 wins to finish and we will appear like a team on the way up.

this is half the problem, we will win a few, then most will be on the train again and then we will lose a heap. It’s a vicious cycle that I have seen enough of. Each group of wins buys more time for Goodwin, however the same Will and does keep happening.

Yep not only playing favourites, but also jobs for the boys. It stinks deep.

What you fail to understand is that “true” supporters also like to look for positives & hope. That does not mean we don’t get bitterly disappointed when we lose or we don’t question the coaches but you seem to think your analysis of a “true” supporter means you must show negativity and blame. Goody will be coach next season and who knows how many pages this embarrassing thread will be up to by seasons end ..guess it just makes you feel better and “cranky”.

No DS9 they are your metrics. You can follow and understand in any shape or form that floats your boat.

You don't however get to unequivocally foist your ideology on anyone else.

We all go about this in a manner that works for the individual. That as such is life in general. Supporting a team need not be anything different.

I don't ask others to be more critical. Doesn't worry me if some think theirs is a better outlook.

We're individuals .... Jacko got that right

Go Dees ( just better 😉 )

It was after all how he landed the job in the first place 😉 Birds of feathers . Spots don't change.

But it does my head in that the usual “Top Clubs” are always up there, regardless of the speed humps. They dip for a maximum 1 year and then Climb straight back up. But not the MFC…

Guys are getting paid around $ 1Mill a year inside this Club (Certain Coaches and Players) so i expect a far better output

So many other Clubs just get on with it….

We could talk “ad nauseum “ about the inequalities of the AFL. It’s a bit like society..the rich get richer ..the poor get poorer and the middle class cops it. I am still passionate about the MFC but I have lost passion for AFL in general …

Yeah, I should’ve known better than to try to appeal to certain posters, especially at this point in time. Not ashamed to say my youngest son is struggling with long-term mental health issues and it’s currently at a very challenging level to say the least.

Sadly though, it just occurred to me that this is the probably the very reason I reared up against the relentless and repetitious negativity right now: because Demonland was one of my escapes from the harsh reality of my home life right now and I guess I need it now more than usual.

GW out. For now anyways.

That's hard to hear Ghosty, I hope he's getting help and starts to feel better and getting on top of his real Demons.

If this place isn't helping then you're right to take a break. I know it's only football, but unfortunately there's nothing much to get us excited or happy about the club or how we're playing.

I think we all wish our season was going better, but lots of us need this forum as an outlet to share our frustration at the gloomy sporting situation. It's especially frustrating when the management is non existent and looks like we'll have another season with little to cheer and lots of disappointment.

Why BA they beat us by 9 goals a few weeks back what has changed? We are still kicking terribly. With the exception of milkshake we have no forwards of any ability. Petracca looks like he wants to be anywhere but in a red and blue jumper and Clarrie is a shadow of earlier this decade.

Do I think Goodwin needs to go? Yes

Do I think in the past senior players (from our club and others) have gotten together before a game and decided on effort levels when faced with situations like we are now? Yes

Do I buy into the new gameplan excuse? No, as I mentioned after the suns game consisting of our worst 1st qtr followed by effort.

I think there’s enough talent player for player to beat the Roos regardless of game style in addition Larkey looks like missing the game along with Darling, Parker and Wardlaw. Potentially others I’m missing. I would like to think if nothing else we try and win as many games as possible as

  • That’s why we play footy.

  • Let’s try and give the Bombers as high a pick as possible.

  • Culture

  • Play the kids and for periods in games let’s try some face paced run n gun footy into an open fwd line and let’s see what happens. We can’t be accused of tanking. At times when we’ve moved the ball quickly we’ve looked dangerous but still a lot to work on.

  • And last of all for betting purposes.

LDU and Wardlaw are out. Larkey, Darling, McDonald and Parker are all "tests".

Watching Goodwin on 360 and he just relentlessly spews complete w&nk-word bingo phrases. It is cliche after cliche.

I thought it was interesting that Goodwin thought Lever was back to his best last week. Also, Goodwin doesn’t like the word “omitted” from the side. Personally, I think that is part of the problem. He is too keen on softening the reality of not performing in the seniors.

The thing is he’s not even good at his corporate speak

Maybe he’s totally different behind closed doors but I want to bang my head against a wall after listening to one of his press conferences, so I can’t imagine what it’s like “living in that space” as a player

I have nothing more to say, but plenty more to add on this!

And with Carlton acting long before us means the baggers "get first draft picks" of a new coaching team before us.

We seem to excel at procrastination

We still have 'Small Club' syndrome and MO imo Brownie. This club has never been able to step down of the porch and go [censored] with the big dawgs for more than a few consecutive seasons. We are constantly taking one step forward and two back both on and off the field and unable to maintain any momentum from our very short-run successful eras.

Aside from the Peter Jackson era, we've lacked serious leadership at the top for many many decades and have far too often accepted mediocrity as our go to calling card. We are doing the same right now in accepting so many pitiful on-field performances in the last two seasons.

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
