Just a slip of the tongue as the other two are former. Goodwin will stay until next year unfortunately.

Peter Jackson did the job for us once, and I'm not sure Smith (a different role, I know) can replicate that. The new CEO with no football experience would not be likely to have the skills that Jackson had. The moment he spoke to the press, we all knew he was a hard man who would sort the place out. And we were right. Then the Board (?Roffey as Pres?) didn't appoint Mahoney as his successor (whom Jackson strong endorsed). We won a flag on the back of the changes that Jackson/Roos put in place, and been losing momentum ever since.

Yeah that's my concern. We have a lot of football problems that have to be solved by a CEO with zero football experience

No CEO and new Pres to be appointed. $1m payout to Goody for sacking him a year before contract expires. He is going no where until 2026 - then questions really kick in. Poor start next year and big trouble!

New CEO has already backed Goody for 2026.

I think Richo in trouble - gee i hope we get Bartel.

Sad to say but probably better off losing most remaining games than getting a false dawn that allows Goody to stay.

There’s no reason EVER to want a loss, let alone multiple losses. Regardless of our ladder position, who our coach is and everything else, losing is something a true fan would NEVER hope for.

Larkey is set to miss, surely we roll the Roos? If we don’t the players are sending a clear message, although regardless of the outcome I think the message has already been sent.

I have serious concerns about Guerra. No footy experience and most of his recent experience is on NFP boards and such - not really a cut throat or results-based environment.

He may be able to help with club promotion, sponsorship and membership - but that's only part of the remit for a CEO.

Steven Smith I have more confidence in, so that's something.

I think Jake Niall had a nothing article about Goodwin recently where he waxed on about his chances of being at Melbourne next year before throwing in a line similar to "he's contracted, so not going anywhere" - which (apart from being lousy journalism) indicates that he has spoken to the club and had it confirmed. Several other media folk have said the same too.

I don't know if it's Goodies remit, but I believe we need an overhaul of the coaches and support staff. Fitness is not nearly what it was. Kicking and skills have not improved. As much as I love the man and think a statue should be made of him at our new training venue (calling Guerra), I dont think Nathan Jones is proven as a midfield coach. Resilience coach yes, strategy no.

It’s pretty sad when you want your team to lose to get your own way, me I hope we win every game we play, I ride every win and loss with our team and hope fervently that we can arise again with most of our team intact and that we only trade in to cover immediate needs. ie a Back a Fwd and a Mid of some quality. I trust our coaches more than I do some of our supporters.

Also don't cry that we can't attract good players to our club, if you're wanting the club to lose games. Nobody wants to play for a loser team!

I'd concur save I'd trust the supporters more than the coaches.

Ours is a life long commitment. There's, well...essentially mercenary in some respects.

Slight technicality doesn't make it any better.....5 of 6, rather than 5 of 5. Same same really in the whole scheme of things.

we have multiple young AA capable players- bowey, turner, x, harvey, kos. years we only had clarry and christian who come out of no where in 2020, we have the chance to be in a much better position than 2021 if we play our cards right. this is a much way better young list then in 2017,18,19

There is a nasty personal edge to some of the attacks on Goodwin that I do not like.

Some people are quick to forget that he is our only premiership coach in six decades.

And since 2021 we have lost at least four key players who have not been adequately replaced ---- Jackson, Hibberd, ANB and Ben Brown ---- while for various reasons others such as Oliver, Petracca and Salem have declined from stardom to mediocrity.

Also, May and Lever no longer form the formidable barrier they once did, with the last two years clearly showing the effects of advancing age.

All in all, the list has clearly deteriorated, despite hope that the likes of JVR, Windsor, Lindsay and Langford have plenty of future upside.

But with all that said, it may be time for Goodwin and the club to sort out an amicable parting of the ways if possible.

All coaching stints eventually come to a natural end through factors such as burnout, lack of flexibility as game plans change, and the need for fresh ideas.

So yes, there is a case for saying Goodwin has lost the plot this season and it's time to go.

But whenever he does leave, he will go with my thanks and respect for some wonderful memories in 2021.

I'd buy him a beer, two even. Yep thanks , to you, the other coaches and team. Yep...no probs.

That was then, this is now.

It's anything but personal. It's actually just a matter of fact.

We're going nowhere. There's no indication we're going.... anywhere.

It's time. Simply that

All Good wins come to an end.

This season is over. Of course I hate losing but I can see the club board being satisfied to say that Goody is the guy for 2026 if we finished the season really well and I don't believe that is in the best interests of the club. This thread went of pause during the 5 from 6 wins with the hope we turned it around but we didn't.

I'll say it again. I hate us losing. It ruins my week. I'm getting depressed we are no longer competitive.

I just see the club looking for an excuse to keep Goody and I want to see this club have the balls to say enough is enough it's time for change.

I want hope for next near and beyond and I'm adamant that we need a new voice with a new coach. You can smell the culture dying from a mile away.

Don't accuse me of not being a true supporter. I want us to be the best and I even believe we can be competitive at the top next year. Only if the players are given a fresh voice though.

I don't want losses but I also don't want to hear "form at the end of the season gives us the confidence that Goody is the man for the job in 2026" from the board, ceo, or president.
