Gosch’s. Captain’s run. Numb hands. Substandard vids. The usual

@Neil Crompton! I’m loving this zoom thing. Zoomin’ in n out like a boss. Might be some heads cut out of the shots coz sun in eyes. Hashtag swings and roundabouts.

Vids to come shortly.

More importantly… all-time favourite songs:

Bowser: Sweet Lies - Fleetwood Mac

BBB: The Car Song - The Cat Empire

Clarrie: I Remember Everything - Zach Bryan

Langers: Heroes - David Bowie

Same question, totally different ways of answering:

Bowser didn’t have to think. I had barely finished the word “… song?” and he blurted out his choice.

BBB gave me the beautiful backstory of how when he and Hester first met they bonded over their love of The Cat Empire and attended many of the band’s gigs.

With Clarrie it was like getting blood from a stone. It took so long to get an answer that I was almost in the rooms at AAMI, and we began the convo at Gosch’s! At first he called out to Max “Hey Gawny! What’s my all-time favourite song?” Maxy said a song title and Clarrie said, “Nah it’s not that one anymore.” He kept saying he had several in mind but he  couldn’t pick just one. In the end it took for me to say, “If I had a gun to your head right now, what would be your FAVOURITE BLOODY SONG???”

Langers didn’t have to think long about it. He said, “Heroes, David Bowie.” I asked, “ Bowie fan? Or just a fan of that song?” He said, “Huge Bowie fan.” I showed him my Bowie tattoo and he was like “That’s so cool!” And I’m not 100% sure but I think we’re engaged now 😝

edit: two years ago I asked Goody the question and he chose My Happiness by Powderfinger. I asked him today if that’s changed and it hasn’t. Guess he is stubborn after all 😉

Does this mean we're in a polygamous situation, WCW?  Because my conclusion on reading "Langer- David Bowie" was that he's my soul mate 😂

(Although Rock and Roll Suicide is my all time favourite in truth, due to that beautiful crescendo and compassionate lyrics)

Checked out Clarries choice.  not bad

who woulda thought country music would be cool one day?!

Tom Morris, eat your heart out!

I’m not sure what I filmed but the usual apologies for the poor quality. Actually, extra apologies this week because since discovering the zoom function, I think the sky features a lot in the vids. 🤭

Will happily share Ed, DP. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays: he’s yours. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays: he’s mine. Sundays: we’ll give the poor bugger a day off.

*pencils Ed in for every single Sunday* 🤫 don’t anyone tell DP.

Ed's choice 70's Rock 'n Roll anthem absolute Bowie classic.

Rather 'hear' that on the 'G PA than being aurally assaulted by Hell's Bells or whatever else is going around .

One match at a time "We can be heroes just for one day".

* Any folk interested in the song's genesis go here https://www.bowiebible.com/albums/heroes/

Two extra vids to show that when @Dingo was chatting with Richo about JS29 last week and the chat was cut short due to Richo playing with the players’ kids, it wasn’t a ‘sneaky deflect’ as suggested by a poster on here. As you can see there’s not a fan in sight.

I could’ve captured way more of this. It happens every session. The kids absolutely adore Richo. In particular, Lmac (Leo McDonald) and George Gawn never tire of playing with him. Even in the training vids I posted above you can hear the kids squealing with delight.

That's adorable.

Also great news for Tmac and his wife who are expecting their third child after the sad loss of their baby earlier this year. Rainbow babies are very special.

@WalkingCivilWar  elite preparation?? I’ve seen more engaged blokes at our local footy club on a Tuesday night.  Yeah it’s cool but … anyway thanks for the vids!

It’s a captain’s run…whaddya expect???

The serious training is on a Tuesday or Wednesday (depending on what day we play) and it’s at Casey and it’s a closed session.

Serious training is also indoors at either AAMI or the amazing new facility at Casey. The captain’s run is an open session, one of the main purposes of which is player/fan engagement (photos/autographs).

Honestly, if you wanna see “elite preparation” maybe take yourself out to Casey and watch from afar through a fence.

Interesting.. if this was a Captains Run, I saw, Tomlinson and JEFFO training!! 😎

Hard to be certain from the videos, but changes looked like:

In: Hunter, Tholstrup, Sparrow

Out: Windsor, Billings, Laurie

I would retain Laurie and not play Hunter. he has not been playing all that well at Casey!

Laurie would be stiff to miss. Played a good game last week.

Understatement

Yep agree. Hopefully I just picked him incorrectly with the VFL group in the vids.

He was actually quite clean in close last week. We need to give him time to see what he can do.

I don’t want to play Hunter again. But he’s on 199. So perhaps they’ll get him 200 against the old mob. But maybe would have been announced by now?

A few 'observations' if I may from WCW's videos this AM.

1. T'was a lovely brisk morning in Old Melbourne town.

2. Tommy Sparrow has learnt his lesson and after an 'appropriate' timeout wishes to be re-admitted to class.

3. During the kicking drill those that failed to hit their target were required to do five or so push ups. Bring back old school master Mr Blight and have the recalcitrants do push ups "live" during game time. Humiliation builds resilience or was that avoidance?

4. Jack Viney gave the #3 guernsey a new cachet. Takes no prisoners on field or at training.

5. That WCW be nominated for a Walkley award for services to Footy photo-journalism. To go with her other 'gongs' and her backstage pass.

But they trained with the twos.

The re-selection of a milestone player wouldn’t be announced any earlier.

If you know anyone who was involved in making tomorrow’s banner, you should ask them about the content of the banner. That’s a dead giveaway. 😁🙃😁

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Having convincingly defeated last year’s premier and decisively outplayed the runner-up with 8.2 in the final quarter, nothing epitomized the Melbourne Football Club’s performance more than its 1.12 final half, particularly the eight consecutive behinds in the last term, against a struggling St Kilda team in the midst of a dismal losing streak. Just when stability and consistency were anticipated within the Demon ranks, they delivered a quintessential performance marked by instability and ill-conceived decisions, with the most striking aspect being their inaccuracy in kicking for goal, which suggested a lack of preparation (instead of sleeping in their hotel in Alice, were they having a night on the turps) rather than a well-rested team. Let’s face it - this kicking disease that makes them look like raw amateurs is becoming a millstone around the team’s neck.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
