Laurie best game so far, showed something to work on.

The umpires certainly saw it that way last night, never missed an opportunity to reward them then blatantly refused to pay identical free’s for us. Grrrrrr.!!!

It all started with Kozzy not paid HTB run down tackle in our goal square in first few mins of the game 🤬

Showed a lot more than Billings. Got to give him a run of games to see if he's up to it. He showed a few good moments with extracting the ball and handballing out of congestion.

You are.

Didn't realise that I am paid to be slow, weak and the contest, miss regulation 2 metre handballs and be a bad kick.

@Redleg

giants players moving on the mark was very frustrating. I called it a few times and was amazed we didn’t get a few 50s our way

There was one against Petty that was a 50 mp always.

I recall one against Kozzie the other day where he was a cm over the mark and pinged.

The inconsistent application of different rules has been very frequent this year.

The umpires are all over the shop and as hard as it is to watch, it must be very difficult for the players.

The ducking issue is as big as it has ever been and the Afl needs to come down hard on players like TG who have a decent history of doing it.

Agreed. He's hardly had whole games and he was fairly good given the amount of game time he's had. Some positive signs from the youngster for sure.

Bowey on the other hand is a worry. Since he came back from his shoulder injury he has been nowhere near his best.

Windsor characteristically quiet despite one or two classy acts.

AmW still going ok and like Windsor I predict a big future.

Jvr didn't get going and had a disappointing day.

Mcvee is traveling very nicely.

A shame Disco didn't get a full game as many of our fwds didn't do much.

It was your intelligent constructive analysis of the boys game that caught my attention.

The Toby Green one when Viney tackled him is everything wrong with the game.

Player puts his knee on the ground to make it impossible to tackle him, inexperienced umpire sees a star in the comp get touched a little too hard and blows his whistle. Same happens with Daicos, Bont, Cripps all the time.

Given this thread is about having 3 words, not sure what you are expecting. They are basically snap judgements, if you disagree that is fine, but no need to start abusing other posters.

Umps seemed to blow the whistle and give giants a free just when we had started to build momentum. It's like they were often doing whatever they could to slow us down and stop us from scoring.

Obviously I'm a bias Dees supporter but I did watch the replay ( well half of it) and there were definitely occasions when Gws were paid some very iffy frees when it looked like we had arm wrestled some control of the game.

I know it's a tough job in real time but honestly the umps either have an agenda( which is very hard to comprehend) or are they are simply just incompetent.

I think more training is required and certainly more experience. We need to raise the standard of umpiring as I think 2024 has seen the lowest grade ever.

Turner  useless as Sub

I reckon that's where we lost it, he should have started up top.

Made an immediate impact as soon as he came on.

Kynan should be in this team.

May - body is shot

May might be one that finishes his season early to go under the knife. Send Petty back, bring in Jeffo and see how he goes. Purely speculation at this stage though.

It seems that Maysie is already under the knife by some “supporters” here.
But a serious question, Little Richard - just what operation, as opposed to R&R, does he need? Certainly NOT a heart ❤️💙 transplant.

There is no way May would want to pull the pin early.Dont forget the GF when he played a blinder with a ripped hammy. He would still to scrape into the 8

I agree re his tenacity but he's getting on in age these days, him and the docs have to make sure he's looking after his body to make sure he's primed for next year. As I said though it's purely speculation on my part about him actually needing work done

I agree with Loges. I thought Laurie was ok. First game in midfield, give him more!

Agree I thought it was Bill’s best game to date, he like all players need continuity to build belief and win the trust of teammates. Same with Woey I kept an eye on him Saturday night he was making position all night to provide an option for our kick ins but no one used him, thinking it’s a lack of trust in his ability to find the next target.

May - below his best.

Lever - rock solid showing.

Bowey - lacked physical presence.

McDonald - slowing up rapidly.

McVee - usual calm display.

Langdon - ran heart out.

Windsor - offered little threat.

Moniz-Wakefield - showing good signs.

Oliver - energy was encouraging.

Rivers - held his own.

Neal-Bullen - tireless but ineffective.

Billings - back to VFL.

Pickett - glimpses of class.

Van Rooyen - never got going.

Gawn - showed some spirit.

Viney - good contest work.

Woewodin - needs to improve.

Petty - unsure of role.

Fritsch - couldn't find space.

Melksham - quiet all night.

Chandler - classy late goal.

Bailey Laurie - jury still out.

Bowey will never have physical presence

He's a great overhead mark for his size.

A fact that opponents have unfortunately recognized as a weakness that can be exploited despite his other positive qualities.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
