Twomey is reasonably consistent with the Demonlanders comments.  Nothing new. Just that the top 10 are all good.  The top 6 are most definitely in the top 10 and then there is the probables & possibles

Dees “5”: best midfielder available from Lalor, O’Sullivan, Draper, Smith or Langford  (likely choice is between Smith or Langford)

Dees “9”: Cal thinks Armstrong, but could be Allan or Travaglia (imv Allan would be a ready made footballer)

Jagga Smith is a very impressive young man. His strength is his footy IQ, gets the footy and makes the right decisions.   His knock is size and strength.   Tackling not really identified.  Kicking is smart but not arrow like.  Pace is good but not electric.  He’s got to get stronger and faster to be an elite midfielder like Butters.

The talk of Bo Allan for our 2nd pick has picked up progressively over the past few weeks.

Was mentioned a week or two ago that we've got strong interest supposedly.

@Ted Lasso yes we are nearly aligned.

#5… likely Smith or Langford.  Either is a great addition.  👏👏👏

However in outcome , I can’t see the Dees taking both Smith & Reid.

in your scenario, at “9”, I think it’s either Allan, Lindsay or Travaglia.
If Smith at 5, I’d take Allan at 9.  They would compliment each other perfectly in a future midfield. Allan can play half back or strong inside midfield role.
If Langford at 5, then it’s either Lindsay or Travaglia as the best choice.  Again players added that present inside power and outside running.

Recently McVee, JVR, Tholstrup, Rivers, Jackson even Taj Woewodin - we certainly aren't afraid to draft from Western Australia so it wouldn't be a surprise

Jagga Smith

He’s right in Richmond’s Pick 1 frame — and could still be on the board by the time the Tigers have their second pick — but all of North Melbourne, Carlton, Adelaide and Melbourne will strongly consider him too.

Sam Lalor

Should the Tigers overlook him, Carlton, Adelaide and Melbourne, surely at the latest, would all consider him strongly.

Harvey Langford

Langford looms as a top-10 pick on draft night. There’s a slight chance the Tigers take him at Pick 1, but if he’s still there at Pick 6 they would strongly consider him. Rival clubs recently strongly linked him to Melbourne (Picks 5 and 9), too.

Murphy Reid

Reid is likely to come into the draft mix from Richmond’s Pick 6 onwards, with St Kilda and Melbourne to consider him too. Some rival clubs, though, wouldn’t be surprised if he slipped into the teens.

Josh Smillie

Smillie still seems well placed to be taken at the top-end of this year’s draft, with Melbourne (Pick 5) the earliest link at this stage. It’s hard to see him sliding past St Kilda and Richmond’s top-10 picks.

Harry Armstrong

There’s an outside chance Melbourne (Pick 5) takes him with its first selection, although the sense is the Dees will more likely target a midfielder at that pick. It’s most likely Armstrong, at this stage, goes to Richmond (Pick 6), St Kilda (Picks 7 and 8) or Melbourne (Pick 9).

Xavier Lindsay

Lindsay is in the top-10 mix, with Melbourne (Pick 5) perhaps the club with the earliest pick that could take him. Yet there’s a world in which Lindsay slips to teams like the Dockers and Power in the teens, such is the nature of this year’s even draft class.

Jobe Shanahan

There’s a slight chance he sneaks in to the top 10 — should one of the Saints, Demons or Tigers want a key forward at that stage of the draft — otherwise he should be in that mid first-round mix featuring the Power, Dockers and Giants.

Jack Whitlock

Could be an outside chance to be taken by one of the Saints, Demons or Tigers in the top 10, but looms more likely as a later selection on night one. Could Sydney pounce?

Amazing analysis - every player is a chance to be taken by any number of clubs with picks around their projected draft range. Dees linked to every player on the list as we sit right in the middle of the range of jets getting through, and next tier pushing up.

Updated. Best guesses and estimates imv.  This draft is very deep with good quality youngsters, and high quality even through the second round and beyond.

I have the Dees holding at picks 5 & 9.  I think it’s a choice between Langford or Smith at “5”, then a choice between Lindsay, Travaglia or Allan at “9”. Either way, Dees get two premium youngsters.

There’s likely to be some pick swaps throughout but the first round predictions as is are:

1. Richmond. Sam Lalor. GWV

Saw Bo Allen highlights from WAFL  - looks a good size with a lot of attributes.  But didn't see him hit a target.

Is that a fair criticism and if so do we want / need another midfielder with sub par kicking skills when Clarry, Trac and Viney all struggle in this area?

Agree. If we grab Smith as polished skilled mid, then Allan is in play as contested ballwinner.  If we take Langford is predicted, then we might take Lindsay who is the most skilled player in the draft in my view.

In the post prior to yours, of the top 30 picks, 24 are Victorian, 1 is West Australian.  PLEASE MFC, pick the Vic's!!!  Eliminate at least one reason why players will want to leave us. 😭

P.S. Only 10% joking

Not crazy but with these picks, he should have a beer in his hand …in my view, Dees would be crazy to miss Langford

Analysis of our list, best 23, draft strategy and likely 5 & 9.  He covers with good insights (for an Eagles supporter) and knows the history of our drafting with reasonable detail.  Worth a listen imv.

He's a good analyst, he had a video of Windsor in his draft year and pretty much nailed his assessment of him.

I reckon we are posturing to take Tauru at 5 so that north take him at 2 leaving us in all likelihood with Jagga Smith who might well be the best in the draft, if you're going purely by performances he's certainly in the conversation. I think we then take one of Armstrong or Travaglia with 9.

The other possibility is that we do end up with Taura at 5 & then Bo Allen at 9.

I'm pretty confident we'll see one of these two play out

I'm getting the sense no one's really going to want to trade down for North's 2 - and they won't be able to beat our 5 anyway, so North might have to not be "greedy" and just use a bit of our philosophy, and pony up 2 for your need and call it a day.

Author? Nah, you have to say masthead to make yourself look super important.

Also, whilst I appreciate a bit of gossip there’s a fair bit of character critiquing about some of these kids in the middle of the school exam period. Bit of a no no. Media are meant to keep their heads down for the next week or so to at least let the kids get the bulk of their exams done.

If this prediction came to fruition, I'm drooling at the thought of us being able to choose from Draper, FOS or Lalor. Would definitely be picking one of those three ahead of Jagga.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
