Was he injured or unwell? 8 touches for a guy who averages 25 is highly unusual

Went off with a knee injury

It just goes to show how you can't rely on highlights.  I loved some of Reid's 4 minute videos but was able to see much more in today's Coates final.

I liked his quick hands on a few occasions, but overall he lacked intensity and noticeably lacked pace.

It's folly to be definitive on one viewing, but he didn't look a top 5-6 pick from what I saw.

Indeed.

It'd be a weak draft if he was anywhere near the best 5 players.

I've dropped him down to 64th in my rankings

Just give me a midfielder who's got quick feet, is highly skilled, and tough, and I'll shut up.

I wonder if he carried the injury in.

Never really looked likely.

How good is Taj Hotton? Is he a talent like what we can get at pick 5 to the point we would consider trading back and pick up an additional first round pick?

If we can manage 3 picks in the top 25, you could in theory land Jagga Smith at 5, Taj Hotton at 14 and Cooper Hynes 20.

I'd absolutely be trading our future 1st and banking on other clubs believing that we'll have a repeat of this year in 2025.

A 30 touch a game Spargo probably is the best player in the history of the game!

Fair call, given a 20 touch Spargo is Brent Harvey.

I think it is underestimated how much difference Spargo in form made to our performance. Touch wood for a rejuvenated Spargonaut in 2025.

Worth noting Ed’s a scout for Oakleigh so he’s going to overrate the Oakleigh guys.

Jagga over Ashcroft, nah.

Taj is excellent but has dropped down the list since he tore his ACL a few months ago. He wouldn't be ready for most of 2025 and not sure if he is prone to ligament injuries

If we get three top 25 picks, we can afford to take a risk like this if we think he's good enough.

Nor Jagga over Finn imo.

Taj Hotton looks like an absolute star. I’d take the punt on him.

Murphy Reid gives off a James Aish vibes. Pass.

Lindsay ain’t going to win games off his own boot. pass.

Can Smillie take contested marks, or defend talls? If he can do either, I’d been keen.

Langford doesn’t look slow. Just not fast. What else are people knocking him for?  he’s got a Brayshaw vibe.

Hotton to me lacks elite decision making skills, furthermore he’s a tad apprehensive in moving it on quickly. His kicking ain’t that flash either.

Would be very reluctant to pick him up with #5

Thanks @adonski  I think there are some bizarre places here.  Smilie at 5!!!   Langford at 15!!! Gross at 17!! Trainor at 18!!! Armstrong at 20!!! Alger at 22!!! Shanahan at 27!!! Anderson at 29!!! Marshall at 30!!! There’s way too many off the mark here.  I know this might be an even group but this is too much. No room for Cooper Hynes! No Harry Oliver!

Which by the way, isn't a mile off Port's 2018 draft and could transform our midfield depth, bring even more youthful exuberance to the forward half.

@adonski  Pascoe response on Langford and Hynes …

“Langford has certainly had a strong year, a have a few queries on his speed and likelihood of producing what he has at junior level at the top level.
Hynes is just outside my top 30 his role at the next level I’m a little unsure on”.

FFS. Langford’s speed? He is a contested ballwinner that plays like Bont.  Great overhead. 192cms.  Has enough speed. He’s not expected to be Max Holmes. Physically ready.  Kicking is very good.  It was his tackling that was strong all year but strangely missed through last 2 weeks.
FFS. Hynes’ role? Well he can play the HFF rotating inside mid role.  Loves a goal. Good strength over the footy.

Langfords kicking is not rated as very good from reports that I’ve read…. From people who have been following all year.

have you watched him live?

Looks decent but is he possibly getting the extra gloss for being a lefty?

Langford.  He’s not perfect.  He’s a contested ballwinner inside mid with good distribution by hand and foot.  Btw Cripps kicking is not perfect.  Trac’s kicking is not perfect.  Clarry kicking is definitely not perfect.  Bont kicking is not perfect.  I’ve seen Langford twice live for Stingrays and kicking is good for distance (covers over 50 easily) and he can hit a target.

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best.
