We ran them to 2 points with half a side and sick players playing.

He saw that up close.

Did this hack apologize for his [censored] take on Clarry now that his injuries have been made public? I bet not.

How about you worry about Port doing something in finals for once Kane

Ridiculously harsh, he was not disparaging Clayton's character just pointing out he is not fully fit and has not played well. Kane has been pretty fair and reasonable regarding the dees.

I still find it hard to believe Houston's mind is flip flopping in regards to our fortunes right now when he has bigger fish to fry. The season is nowhere near done.

I think its more likely other clubs have thrown their hat in the ring and now the asking price has risen

Fair?

“Has there ever been a player with as much talent giving so little output as Kossie Pickett?”

That’ comment is as far away from ‘fair’ as I can imagine.

I don't agree with everything he says but the histrionics every time he gets mentioned is completely over the top

I think you and I are listening to a different Kane.
He has done everything but call Clarry a cultural cancer. Suggesting we let him go for nothing (or give away our first round pick too!) just to be rid of him, while at the same time saying Collingwood were too quick to give up on Ginnivan.
The man is an [censored].

I used to like him - and occasionally defend him - but he has become increasingly radical in his pursuit for attention/ratings/differentiation and, as a result, has lost any balance in his reporting.

The Kossie comment was actually ‘is there anyone more talented that delivers less than Kossie Pickett?’.  It was ridiculous rhetoric. Very difficult to argue people are harsh on him when he says stuff like that.

His comments on Pickett are completely accurate. For a player that went as high as Pickett did, you'd expect more ROI for the talent he has. Inconsistency is Pickett's mandate.

Apparently Houston spent time reading Demonland and that changed his mind.

I question why I'm wasting my time here most days....

This is absolute BS. Only very recently they showed his standing over his first 80 or so games and he is up there with some of the best small forwards.

Inconsistent?
He is elite for goals per game!

Compare him to say Charlie Cameron, he’s kicked more goals from two less games, while also playing midfield minutes, in a team that hasn’t performed as well. He is also 7 years younger and played like 200 less games.

It was a [censored] take from Cornes.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the graphic and stats you're referring too. That doesn't change the position regarding consistency of performances. On averages he's ahead of Betts at the same age; if you change the metrics to totals that almost totally inverts in most categories.

I don't doubt he has talent and I think his consistency has improved somewhat this year, but I hardly think he's a beacon out output on a weekly level.

Incorrect.

In you're opinion, as you are in mine. Though ultimately at the end of the day, he's above all discussion on this site unless you laud his efforts weekly.

If it’s his mandate I have some serious questions for the coach.

So Houston only became aware of all these "issues" after a Tom Morris report and the subsequent SEN , AFL.com, hS page page and airtime fillers in the last 3 days.... Please

And Houston, who has been playing for like 10 seasons, has never in his life encountered internal conflict and is not  well aware that these thing are common place in football clubs?

He plays for Port for goodness sake, Hinkley has been getting the sack there every year for 5 years now.

I reckon other clubs smelled blood and are pouncing like vultures. If a trade has been sorted with Port already, then not only will other clubs have to satisfy Houston, they would also have to trump our deal.

Port will sack their coach at the end of the year... Mark my words 😎

Don't see the loss in a guy who read a report about culture and made the decision to not come. Who did he sit down with at the club to come to that conclusion overnight.

Plus mortgaging our future on a guy who will be 28 when he plays his first game

I hope this is a good lesson to players to keep their matters internal.

there's a difference between evidential data and 'the vibe'

the former has pickett tracking to be one of the best small forwards since aaron davey reinvented the position - better than stephen milne and eddie betts, and comparable with charlie cameron and cyril rioli

'the vibe' has it that we want to see so much more from him as an output basis and also from a consistency data output from game to game rather than highs and lows from game to game, let alone quarter to quarter

i think both @BLWNBA and @Norm Smith's Curse can be generally speaking 'correct' in their positions

i think pickett is a helluva player - much like davey, his high level output will ultimately see him transitioning beyond being 'only' one of the best small forwards of his era

This is a very fair take and pretty well summarised. I'm pretty cognisant that my views are definitely in the minority.

I don't think he's a poor player, I think he's incredibly inconsistent. I hold him to a high standard because he clearly capable of performing at that level; though I personally think that when he has an incredible performance, such as R18 in 2022, that recency bias creeps in and his 'down weeks' are somewhat glossed over.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
