From my perspective, the single most important aspect of football is winning the hard ball. Nathan Jones is going to win us many a hard ball over the next decade. Well done Jonsey, you are proving worthy on the number 2 jumper.

Jones won't be going anywhere.

Seriously, we just need a midfielder with good pace who can break the lines (Please throw the book at one during trade week), because we already have Beamer, McLean, Sylvia and Jones in our future midfield, with possibly Bate and Bell.

On second thoughts, could Bell (In a few years obviously) be the line breaker we need? We all know he is very quick and a great kick when he doesn't start thinking about it, also very strong and courageous, what are everyones thoughts?

I'm not proposing take him out of the backline anytime soon, but in a few years time could he play permanent midfield?

i reckon his ball use is good enough, he is certainly quick enough with a good engine, and his tackling is one of the best in the team, so i don't see why he couldn't be a midfielder if that's what danners wants

For a guy in just his second year, he is really impressing me.

I trust his disposal will improve to really cap his game off.

Absolutely agree. Even if he peaks early he'll be an A grade midfielder.

If he starts kicking those goals that he missed today he'll be the complete package.

I was really impressed with him today, especially in the last quarter when he provided some good run in the middle and finished it off with some great passes in to the forward 50.

Nathan Jones born 20.1.88. Hasn't come close to his 21st birthday yet. Going to be a long term player and a gun for the MFC. A Greg Williams reincarnation in the making.

Hasn't come close to his 20th yet I think you mean. Think you got your maths wrong, he's 19 turning 20 next year! :P

And yes, he is a gun. :D

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
