In no particular order:

Van Rooyen

Sparrow

Rivers

Pickett

McVee

These five men are the ones that are going to take us forward,  I hope this year or next they are all pushing for the 40 all Australian squad.

We cannot rely on our elders anymore, nor should we. I firmly believe these 5 are the new breed, the new leaders, and have to drive this club forward.

Sparrow's output has gone backwards this season. Watching from the stands it doesn't appear as though he has a clearly defined role, which may be a contributing factor.

Bowey is one I would like to see hit his stride again. At his best he provides us plenty of drive.

Agreed, I feel as I'm still waiting for a break out game from Sparrow even though he has played many good games

At 26 to 28, are these players considered old? Trac, Clarry, Lever Langdon and ANB?

May and Max are playing just fine this year.

Many years of service left with most of the named players, and May and Max still playing AA contending football.

It’s not time for a complete rebuild.

But I get your original point.

Still crazy to think that Andrew Obst was 27 when he first played for us!

May is far from AA form, won’t be in the squad.  Not saying he’s finished, but have to acknowledge his decline has begun.

Sparrow has a huge opportunity to step up right now. Hoping, but not expecting it at this point.

Looking forward to Tholstrop and kynan brown getting games. Some youthful exuberance to light the fires and get some enjoyment back in our game.

May has dropped somewhat since cracking a rib. He was a shoe in for full back prior.

How long has May been our rock in our backline, and our backline the rock of our team?

Its crumbling came sooner than expected, but I’m not surprised that our team has reflected the collapse of our backline. When your strength starts to get nullified without a step up in performance else where, of course things are going to go backwards.

If all the players in the original post played to their capabilities consistently we would have a very solid base going forward

Re the backline : they have been far more under siege this season due to the significant fall off in our midfield.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
