too many talls maybe?

wright's form has completely abandoned him

waterman would be great, i think, but i'm convinced that the talk of him leaving is purely managerial manoeuvring to get a decent contract uplift now in his pre-agency year

Same here.

Not entirely sure why but I just don't see Waterman as gettable. Would be like Viney leaving around 2019.

I’m not from Perth but does the Waterman name have nearly the same connection as Viney to mfc?

His brother has already been delisted and played at Essendon.

The eagles are in year 3 of being terrible with maybe 3 more to come, where as ‘19 was a disaster but we were always going to bounce back to some level.

The biggest factors might be that the eagles low balled him last year so he  isn’t that keen to do them a favour.

And from the Eagles side they need picks to get this rebuild moving and Barrass alone won’t get too many early ones in.

With Oscar Allen plus a couple of decent forward/ruck role players in Jack Williams and Bailey Williams maybe you sell high on Waterman and use the cash on Tim English for free.

I wouldn't be against Peter Wright next season - would offer more than Schache and we're going to be down BBB and JS29 as well you'd assume.

Tom Hawkins retiring end of season, so assume the cats will swoop on Waterman

current 2024 draft picks: 7, 38, 42, 48, 63, 81

obviously we 'own' all our 2025 picks as well, as two future years trading hasn't come in as yet

the players we have been rumoured to be interested in:

  • josh battle (aints) FREE AGENT
  • isaac cumming (gw$) FREE AGENT
  • ryan angwin (gw$)
  • dan houston (pear)

i think we've been ruled out of the battle sweepstakes; he's either staying at aints or going to dingley

cumming talk seem to have gone quiet; i would presume we're still keen? angwin the same

houston i am super keen to bring home, if we can

do i worry about the supposed 'cost' of two first round picks? i expect that's ambit claim put to the medja to spruik on the pear's behalf by jason cripps and chris davies, but we shall see...

...the biggest q is whether he is worth it

as i think it was @DeeSpencer said, there's first round picks and then there's 'first round picks'

would love to get him

yes

his dad played 177 games for them, is a two-time premiership player, and he was 'best clubman', who then became their backline coach before switching to flagmantle

so yes, i would imagine the waterman name has just as much connection as the viney for us

Fair questions.

Possibly not but he's emerged as a hot forward that I'm sure they would like to tie down, we know very well that these marking types don't grow on trees.

Like Viney around 2019 Jake has 100 games behind him and is now established. With the history he has at the club on top of this it would raise some eyebrows to see him leave now, not saying he wouldn't but more chance of him staying put I reckon. It could be 3 more years of pain but we've seen quicker bounces before.

The trade bait/cashing in for English scenario is one that I hadn't considered yet, if they have tabled this 6 year deal then it could be worth looking at, I can't imagine the cap space wouldn't be there to throw at English though would it? Especially with Gaff, Darling, McGovern, Cripps also off contract this year or next.

I do hope we keep out hat in the ring for Josh Battle if possible. He would be a great replacement for Rivers at half back as someone who can take both talls and medium sized players. Cumming I am also very keen on as a free agent, but not so much Houston given the cost.

Imagine a starting backline of May, Petty, Lever, Battle, Cumming, Bowey & McVee next year.

200 cms is better than 197 cms so that is a start.

I have to go now and ask someone for my life savings to be returned.

it sounds like battle has made his decision and it won't involve us

i presume the lure for cumming is that broken hill has more affiliation with adelaide than melbourne (or sydney for that matter)

he would be a handy pick up for us but has done his hamstring, what, three times this year? cerra tops him out at five this season...

That’s based on media reports, but they have been wrong before.

Guess we will know more in the coming months!

The SA clubs have been chasing Cumming as he apparently has ties to SA. If Houston’s leaving Port, would absolutely make sense that they are keen for IC to replace Houston.

Pretty sure Cal Twomey (last week) said it feels like Cumming either resigns or goes to SA.

I thought that was Perryman, who is from SA I think.

yeah, strategic leaks i assume

alongside houston, waterman, cumming, and angwin, i would love us to target the following blokes  on good coin and at least ellen is on a long deal who might be looking for a change of scenery and we might be able to get them at a discount if we take on their full salary into our cap:

  • liam ryan (meth coke)
  • darcy parish (peptides)
  • jack macrae (footscray)

finn callaghan (gw$) in the year before he comes out of contract would cost a pretty penny but he would suit us to a tee

Flags are nice but there’s at least a dozen eagles from that time with far bigger profiles. And that’s not close to Todd’s legacy nor the impact Jack has had as a high draft pick coming in at rock bottom and playing a key role (alongside his dad) in turning it around.

I don’t think it’s in the same ballpark.

yeah not sure about that

a two time premiership player as a father is a pretty big deal and formative in yr life i imagine, especially as jake presumably would've grown up around that club and then freo during his early childhood; jack grew up around dees, dingley, and crom

jack joining the mfc while todd worked there is a huge deal, no doubt

be interesting to see if waterman wants to play in a premiership as the same colours as his dad - i suppose it depends if he thinks they can regenerate quickly on field

jack had the option to go to the puddy tatts and didn't

let's see if jake has the some tug on the heartstrings

They have the cash. But I just don’t see a lot of value in having 2 of the games best 10 key forwards, a gun ruck and almost no talent in the midfield or backline (under 30) not named Harley Reid.

If I was an eagles I’d sell off Waterman if the price was right. They just have so many needs and the draft is such a mess, if you can grab a second top 10 pick in a strong draft as a rebuilding side it helps so much.

These two would be handy, Ryan’s hamstrings are shot though.

Parish albeit abit soft could be a hood answer to our Brayshaw problem.

Dont think we will ever find a genuine Jackson replacement

Could possibly use Houston or Parish as some sort of Brayshaw replacement type roll.

Peter Wright could be some sort of floating forward / second ruck option.

Can an attack of Fritsch, JVR and Waterman really work?

Id like a pacey mid as well - asking too much?
