The AFLW is so uneven that they carefully fixture to ensure the best teams don't play the cellar dwellers.

From last years home and away ladder we play 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 13th, 14th and 16th.

Tough start with Cats Lions and Roos first 3 games. Need to hit the ground running and win 2 of these if we want to ensure home finals.

i think the newer teams will improve again. bombers, Sydney and suns will be improvers. i don't think us, crows, Lions and Roos will dominate to the same extent as previous years.

Yes, its like an unofficial divisional system.  Not best pleased with the fixture, really wish we didn't play down in Casey so much.  We couldn't get more centrally located games?

I knew a year without having to suffer the pain of going to Mordor was too good to be true. 😅

Also… Windy Hill (shudder) ‘Nam flashbacks

A 4-day break between the Crows at Norwood Oval and the Saints at RSEA Park… tough. 😳

From a cheer squad point of view Round 4 is the only potential clash (if our men make a prelim). But we’ll split our resources *if need be ❤️💙

*here’s to hoping need be

...unless we're playing the Dockers, they've finished above us on the ladder, and it's a Friday or Saturday night game! 🤪

Well played AFL. The players want a longer season, but the AFL doesn't, so they tie expansion to crowds then schedule games featuring interstate teams at night in the middle of the week. It's pure genius.

It's pretty tough on semi professional players to have 4 games in 16 days.

It was a nice experience last season, wasn't it.

Now can't have us supporters getting comfortable, what!

Another step closer to Season 2024:

I'm looking forward to it a bit more this year, what with the men's season not going quite as expected, but also because it's going to be yet another step up in standard. Also, the discussion of this group of leaders makes me proud of the people in this Club.

And we'll get to see the red and blue being skillfully and excitingly showcased for weeks beyond the end of August (hopefully September).

Does anyone have the link to add the fixture to your calendar? I am very much looking forward to the season

There’s a praccy match vs Carlton this Friday (Aug 10th) at Ikon at 5pm.

Entry is free.

Great venue (the girls love playing at Ikon) but terrible start time for a Friday game.

Our game vs Essendon at Windy Hill (shudder) is on a Friday at 2pm. When I first saw this I couldn’t believe how dumb it is.

But it’s on the 27th of September which is AFL grand final eve meaning it’s a public holiday (in Victoria). Not everyone has that day off, though. But I suppose it’s better than a regular Friday at 2pm.

What a Fascinating FIXture it is!

With the 'One month later' continuation of this thread, I'm sensing a shift now of our Dees-following from the Hopeless to the Hopeful. A bit earlier than we would have liked but...

Go Girls!

Go Dees!

A challenging fixture notwithstanding, there’s much excitement about the new season! A lot of new talent this season. The Season Launch was held on Monday and by all accounts it was a wonderful night. *Season Launches are by far and away the most fun events on the footy calendar because it’s a fresh slate kinda vibe and everyone is full of hope. I couldn’t attend. Unfortunately I’m not as well-heeled as I’d like to be. 😭 But everyone enjoyed a great night and warmly welcomed the new girls.

*except for this year’s men’s Season Launch which was held on the 22nd of February, merely hours after Gussy’s forced retirement was announced. That night wasn’t terribly fun at all 🥲

That new Hawthorn recruit seems to be getting a lot of publicity, not just here but overseas as well.

Seems like everybody's talking about the Hawk Tuah girl.

Looking forward to see how we go .....but...does the same person that does the VFL fixtures do the AFLW ?  It's a mess. Melbourne play every day except Monday and Tuesday from 11.00 am through to 7:15 pm.

Saying something, not particularly complimentary, about the fixture so far - and possibly about the AFL's 'team creation' set-ups, and other artificialities:

* North's percentage of 311% (including a draw with 12th-placed Geelong)

* 16th-placed GWS 91%, 11th-placed Melbourne 61%

* 12th-placed Geelong 103%, 11th-placed Melbourne 61%

* 3 teams less than 50% (and one near it) - despite 2 having won twice

Injuries, particularly ours, skew things somewhat, too.

Looking at the ladder right now, we’ve played six of the top eight and are scheduled to play the other two in the next two Rounds. Of the two teams that we’ve played who are not in the eight, Geelong made a Preliminary Final last year where they lost to the eventual premier Brisbane by 4 points. In other words, it’s about as tough a fixture you could possibly dream up given the teams you don’t play in your allocation of 11 games. Worse, given our injuries this season.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

    Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

    The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

    Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

    The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

    It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
