Thanks George_o_t_o it is great to see the file up and running for 2024 even if the numbers are down quite a bit, two failed finals series have had their impact. We need some wins to rekindle belief.!!

What did Kate say BDA?

“Collingwood members set the benchmark when it comes to achieving huge – and let’s be honest – noisy crowd attendances; and that is a benchmark we want to chase,” Roffey told this masthead.

“I believe Melbourne can and should be a big club on and off the field. We have seen our membership grow to record numbers over the last few years and are on our way to reaching 75-80 thousand members, and I want to see that number keep growing. We have always had a great rivalry with the Pies on the field. Let’s add the membership-number challenge to that great rivalry off the field.”

Roffey went on to explain that her remarks should be interpreted as a call to arms for Melbourne supporters. In 2023, the Demons had 70,785 members to Collingwood’s 106,470, while the two clubs’ average crowds, including finals, were 43,860 for Melbourne and 64,429 for Collingwood.

“The crowd at a game makes a huge difference - especially a noisy crowd giving their team 100 per cent support. I’m not sure supporters realise how much difference it does make to players on the field - but it matters a lot to them. When the MCG is full and our members are making lots of noise it gives the players a massive lift out on the field.

“I will keep encouraging every Melbourne supporter to play their part by getting to games, by being louder in the stands - and getting behind their players whether the team is five goals up or five goals down - because it does matter.

Roffey admitted, “I may well go down in history as the only Melbourne president who has ever said anything positive about Collingwood - but in the context of the conversation I was having around the size of the club and crowd attendances I don’t think there is any confusion for supporters.

“We love playing at the MCG - our spiritual home; and we want to see the ’G full of red and blue every time we play there. Our supporters are the ones who will make our club big - and I would like to see them filling the stands at every one of our games and being a part of our incredible journey.”

Thanks BDA Kate always makes sense, it is definitely more enjoyable watching the Dees play when we are surrounded by like minded supporters making a lot of noise.😁

Good

As long as the Club continues to think of itself as Big and Growing. Last year we got shafted badly, we have to stand up and play hard ball on and off the ground.
Years ago we merely made up the numbers.
Not anymore…

You have to think BIG to aim there. Same with Perty. 75,000 members nearly there Flags from all teams in 4 years.

Some fans don’t know how hard it is in the AFL, it is extraordinarily competitive, I hate it when some cans say we don’t get crowds. We are usually in the first half dozen each season now. MCG is a bonus for us we deserve as our home ground for money making. 50,000 plus average was a dream a decade ago.

Yes we are on a good track. I worry a little about The Gamestyle, we simply have to kick better scores

9 Goals a game simply won’t cut it long term. We have to trade hard next summer for KPF’s. We may have to trade some midfielders to do it.
But we simply have to score more efficiently

Nearly 7k down on this time last year is a fair chunk to make up.

Not sure our marketing's been very inspiring or prominent enough since the flag TBH.

The off field stuff might have impacted somewhat also.

Giving up players we need is not the answer. Getting more out of the ones we have is the contract if we wish to be in the flag hunt.

I wonder whether Kate Roffey's comment re being more like Collingwood is to do with their memberships increasing due to off field discretions while ours seem to have dropped. I'm not too concerned as the numbers will bounce back if our on field form warrants it.

I'm always bemused by those that don't just automatically renew year-to-year. A successful club only becomes so through dedication, not by jumping on the bandwagon should we be in shape by midyear.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but my son came home from pre school today singing the [censored] Carlton song. He said one of his friends was singing it. It also came up on the kids algorithm on Spotify when my wife was driving him home.

I suppose it's possible to push the theme song out on Spotify. It's actually a very clever way of potentially getting new supporters.

We should do this.

Push Grand Old Flag on socials and Spotify.

My wife was quite surprised with my reaction, which was something like that's a terrible song, we don't sing that in this house. 🤣

I'm like you do realise you're married to a nuffy that lives the MFC, so much so that I went to the footy the day after our wedding, and planned the date around the footy.

Ya silly sauage wifey.

I planned our wedding for the weekend before the footy season starts so we can always go away for our anniversary … and then they went and introduce [censored] round 0! 🙄😡

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
