It is not secret that the Demons are in near-future need of a ruckman and a defender as successors to Gawn and May.

I present to you the brothers De Koning;

Tom De Koning, Ruck, 201cm, 102kg, 24yrs, restricted free agent out of contract in 2025.

Sam De Koning, Defender, 204cm, 97kg, 22yrs, out of contract in 2025.

Carlton would be hard pressed for salary cap space by 2025 and Geelong will just be hard pressed.

Am I crazy or could this be the big sentimental play that reopens our premiership window from 2026 on?

That’s $2M bucks right there at least.

The impending hole in our list is also an impending space in our salary cap - why not fill one hole with the other? (aside from being a terrible analogy from a physics perspective). Unless both De Konings seriously boom they would each be a bit cheaper than Gawn and May, respectively.

Another way of seeing it is as the final balancing of the ledger for losing Jackson.

Anything is possible if you want it enough. But we would have to give up a fair bit in exchange.
if North have a bad year in ‘24 i would be right into Larkey, getting the 2 brothers maybe too hard.
But it is a very interesting Poker Play….

How’s the old boy in the background wearing a suit, shirt and tie but then has sexy little shorts on.
Man.. AI is so overrated and overhyped.

I wonder what happens if you give AI the prompt '15 minutes of my life I won't get back'?

Wait... I got it; you get the 'loading circle' going around. That's it. That's the image. Time lost = 100 minus IQ.

The Single De Koning Play?

Left out of the prelim.

Definitely bring him over ASAP so he can play forward and get injured.

But seriously, with both Turner and Petty being forward at the moment, Tomlinson going, and May and McDonald boldy attacking the twilight, an additional young defender must be a priority. At 204cm Sam De Koning also gives us height that our defence has not had much of even at its peak.

Does Adelaide have anything Geelong want? Feel like a Nibbler to De Koning conversion could be a healthy outcome.

Not that it will happen but Hunter, Laurie, Tom Mac, Melk, Fullarton, Billings, Hore, McAdam maybe and even Woey could all be gone next year and that is way more than $2m. Several of the replacements could be young players at low salaries.

They arent worth the coin it would cost. Neither are 50 goal a year fowards either.

Who else for $2mill. then. Someone else might be with their presence.

Sam to Princes Park, simpler to orchestrate and cheaper for MFC too 😉

Carlton needs to shred the Houston file though.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
