Appropriate comment from someone called "Cheap Seats".

Reminds me of the probably apocryphal story of a club's Members' Handbook which had in its Table of Contents, "Seats - see under Members"

Head in the sand?

Soz man.

Funnily enough if our boys had kicked straight as did our opposition Simon Goodwin would have been the hero winning with a makeshift forward line. Jeez.!!!!

A couple of levels of irony here.

This is a thread started by a new poster asking posters to consider uniting behind our team and stop fighting amongst ourselves.

The site owner follows up with a post noting he wholeheartedly agrees with this message of unity between fans

You ask me this question:

'Surely even your confidence is a little dented watching this unfold?

I answer your question respectfully ('no, not at all').

Then add some words i hoped might contribute to the spirit of this thread - lets unite behind one of the oldest and greatest sporting clubs in the world. Our club.

I didn't ask you for any editorial feedback.

But you gave it anyway.

Waffle.

Again, in the spirt of the thread, i didn't bite, and instead made a self deprecating joke.

Again, I was not asking for any feedback

But you gave it anyway.

'You fell a little short, about the English Channel gap'

Perhaps you were trying to be funny and not trying to have another dig at me. Only you know the answer to that and frankly i don't care. But so there is no confusion, I didn't find it funny.

The second level of irony?

Claiming people are triggered by your suggestion we might slide. As i have noted i have not seen evidence of anyone being triggered by your assessment of where we are at.

But I appear, for whatever reason, to trigger you.

And if i were honest i find unnecessary rudeness, for example having a shot at me for no apparent reason in consecutive posts in a thread calling for unity, a little bit triggering. I don't get it. But each to their own i guess.

So, for the sake of both of our mental health i'm popping you on ignore. Life is too short for silly back and forths on a footy forum.

I'm telling you this because i don't want you to think I'm being rude when i don't reply to any more questions from you.

Enjoy the season rooster.

Go Redlegs

Oh please, spare me the attempted scolding, I’m not 7

It can be a fine line between being a hero and being a zero.

As for the media relishing some current problems at the Dees, take that as a compliment. It is better to be feared than be the loveable, non threatening club that never challenges.

Everyone in the AFL knows that with some good luck in terms of injuries at the pointy end of the season, this Demons squad can win another flag. That is why they fear you and relish any problems at MFC.

Man the season hasn’t started and I’m all ready over it, 1 thing after another the Gus decision has just about tipped me over the edge, well 1 thing is for sure we will find out pretty quick if the players have enough ticker

I'm all for unity and will back the boys in, but with all that has happened (and now Gus) - this is truly the ultimate test for us and our culture (the best in 40 years as Pert has said).

We'll either come out a basket case (which you could understand), or the leaders will take charge, set the agenda straight (we have to make amends for the last 2 years and make use of this limited premiership window) and the juniors take the opportunity to stand up and go to the next level.

Looking forward to seeing us breathing fire from the first bounce - this is where we remind everyone that we are focused.

Unfortunately this request is futile.

Thank you @sam6172 for creating what had the potential to be a wonderful and very welcome thread right now. Sadly, it’s become unreadable, for me anyways.

Same goes for DL in general, tbh. Way too many drainers. I need to do a Luci, and take a break.

WCW out, for now 👋

I tried. It is disheartening to see the attitude of our fanbase has turned mostly negative. Whilst I thank the ones who took the post the right way, there are quite a few who just took it as another excuse to take pot shots.

The main point of it was just to encourage people to just focus on the footy. Good or bad. I'm not asking for censorship of people's opinions if they happen to speak badly about certain players or staff, with the exception of personal attacks. A few people seemed to take it that way. I'm all for a good back and forth.

Just don't get all down in the dumps over things we can't control. Off field and off season is all stuff we cannot control. Let's just cheer the red and blue when they run out for real in a few weeks.

Just heard about Gus and that situation just drives the point home. It's just footy. There is more important things to worry about.

Enough with the personal attacks on players and staff. Keep it constructive. If any of us genuinely know more than them then I encourage you to show up at the club and let them know. Put yourself to use at the club rather than talking down to everyone here.

I didn't even realise we lost the practice game. That's how much a cared about the result.

Apparently if you add both scores we won by 2 points??

Sorry I thought we kicked 8.3 -51 to 3.8- 26 = + 25 which is two better than our -23 deficit from the 1st stanza??

I agree some early wins will certainly take the wind out of the sails of a media that doesn't seem to rate truth and credibility anywhere near as highly as it should. I think there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about what we might be able to achieve this year, we will need a lot of things to fall our way, but that's not different to any other year.

I find it incredibly interesting the talk of deep cultural issues being linked to a team with 3 consecutive top 4 finishes, a premiership in the AFL, VFL and AFLW, stability on all levels, record membership, the vast majority of required players re-signing long term and year on year profits. I'd say with a reasonable degree of confidence most other clubs would absolutely love to have this sort of a record.

What i've stated is fact though, it's not media hyperbole. we've had an incredibly successful 3 year period by virtually all measures and realistically we've probably underachieved slightly based on what a club in our position is capable of. it's very hard to marry that up with the suggestion we are an absolute basket case with massive cultural problems.

Afternoon.... Bub here...you know that Devilish one....  I'll assume an advocational posit as it were.

The suggestion is.... some early wins might ( and that's only might,  as that's actually literally what it suggests ) take the wind out of the sails of media pundits who I sense you're saying are overly negative, irresponsibly negative ?

So what if we don't...i.e what if we don't  come outof the blocks all guns blazing chalking up better than evens ?

Which games do you think we'll account better than our adversaries prior to the bye..

They being in order ,

Swans...away

Dogs...home

Hawks....home

Port followed by Crows...both in Ade

Back home v Lions

I can see many might tick 3 straight away...

I'm not ticking any just yet.

I see 2 rather hard games and 4 that could be anything.

4 and 2 ...we might get somewhere this year

2 and 4... hmmmm....  we'd be camping in struggle street before we knew it.

At the risk of ridicule games are simply won by kicking a higher score than your opponent.  For mine...unless i witness something approaching an effective fwd game against Carlton... and that requires the team jelling much better than current.... requires a better approach than our prevailing religious routine...  then i harbour serious doubts regarding season 24.

But your idea is not without curry.

Not often a season is defined in round 1... ours might be.

Go Dees

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players.  Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin Boeing 737 flight to Perth for this upcoming team-bonding, fun-filled, weekend getaway.   This cross-continent Round 4 clash at Fremantle Oval starting at 2:05pm AEST promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies slight favourite.     If we lose, finals will be remoter than Rottnest Island and the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday, an omen.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
