I think the Digital Membership from the club is a great saving on the Kayo subscription.

Just to let people know that the Digital membership with Kayo is likely to rise substantially for 2025.

Collingwood are reportedly charging $350 which is only $60 or so under the usual 12 month price.

Definitely now worth opting out around August for those who just want football

kayo one (1 device) is $25/mth, therefor $150 for 6 mth season  c.f. with club offer of $350

kayo one for 12mths is $300, so even cheaper if you keep kayo one for whole year

to complete the picture, kayo basic (2 devices) is $35/mth, $210/6mths, $420/12mths

of course kayo basic could also be split across 2 households for further savings

i wonder how they would manage that with devices able to be mobile phones?

Mobiles will be okay. It's the television they'll restrict. Netflix operates that way.

As an aside Foxtel is up for sale and the most likely buyer is a foreign hedge fund turnaround organisation. They'll pretty it up and onsell it in in five years.

The mega rights deals with AFL, NRL and cricket will make for interesting negotiations with the offshore owners

i don't think people realise how much the sale of foxtel will change afl and nrl coverage in oztraya

cricket will be somewhat 'safe' because of the i(b)cc(i) and the value of international rights for a global sport

but afl and nrl? gonna be interesting to see how it goes

i think last deal 70% of the broadcast rights came from news corp for both codes?

And there it is for us

You have a Digital (Kayo) Membership set to rollover.
As a return Digital Member, we have a special rollover price of $320 for you. This is only available to renewing members, the RRP will rise to $350 for any new purchasers.

still cheaper than the 12x$35 = $420 that a full year costs

which reminds me, i must cancel my rolling monthly subscription!

I'm not going to say that's not true because it most certainly is true.

Kayo is such a bad platform from a picture quality and buffering perspective and is poor value at $300 p/annun. I get so incensed at the poor quality of the product for what I pay for it that I routinely cancel it only to be offered 30 days for free from Kayo and then cancel it again at the end of the 30 days. That they have prioritised 4K marketing over sorting out their platform is very poor.

The "streaming rules" are starting to emerge for 2025.

https://www.bandt.com.au/binge-pushes-play-on-live-on-demand-sport-news-entertainment-lifestyle-content/

At the heart of Foxtel’s 2025 offering is a landmark AFL rights deal, which will revolutionise how Aussie Rules football is broadcast. Starting in 2025, Fox Footy will exclusively stream every match of the AFL season live, ad-break-free during play, and in stunning 4K quality. The first eight rounds will be available nationally, with the first 15 rounds exclusive to Victoria. The coverage will include expert analysis from a line-up of AFL greats, including Jason Dunstall, Jonathan Brown, and Garry Lyon, ensuring fans receive the best insights in the game.

A bit convoluted and unclear but on another forum a poster explains it as follows:

Rounds 1-8. No Saturday Channel 7 produced games. You need Fox/Kayo to watch Saturday games live. Teams outside Vic will have their teams games on a 2 hour delay on Ch 7

Rounds 9-15. No Saturday Channel 7 produced games.
Teams outside of Vic will have their games live on Ch 7.

So the big take away is in Victoria no FTA coverage on Saturday

So just to clarify, on any given Friday night game next year we won’t have to put up with BT’s mistake riddled calls, and instead watch a Foxtel production of the same game??

I decided to cancel my subscription after the season finished. When I went to do it I was given an offer of $10/month to stay on kayo till next season. As I watch some basketball, NFL and motor racing I though that was a good deal. 2025 who knows!  it's a decision for next March.

that's interesting - i cancelled mine and got no similar offer

i was on a grandfathered telstra deal for $15 that bumped to $35 from around may onwards

the quality of their stream via browser is absolutely appalling

Not sure on Friday night

Foxtel have exclusivity for Saturday games for Victorian viewers for Rounds 1-15.

Other than the occasional re-set to 1080 from 4K (re-installing the app fixes this) I've found the Kayo connection to be very reliable.

They are fast losing sports that interest the bulk of viewers during the summer break. They really need either EPL or better still the Champions League to deliver a year round service worth paying for. The alternative is to offer a 12 month sub for the price of 10 months.

The other change which will come unfortunately is limiting the two screens to one physical location. Just a matter of time

PS Forgot to mention that Kayo's sister streaming product... Binge ... is about to lose its biggest content drawcard in HBO. To deflect from this loss they are introducing some sports onto Binge.

BINGE is entering its sports era with an expanded content offering to include live and on-demand premium sport, direct from Kayo Sports, on the platform, as well as additional live news channels, at no additional cost to subscribers.

Starting with a bumper finals weekend with the back-to-back AFLW Grand Final and WBBL Grand Final on 30 November and 1 December, sport will appear on BINGE. Following that will be Men’s Big Bash League, Super Netball, and, come winter, NRL and AFL footy on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays (simulcast games) during the regular season with no ad breaks during play.

Additional sports and shows coming to BINGE direct from Kayo Sports include World Surfing League, Women’s Golf (USLPGA, Ladies’ European Tour, AIG Women’s Open), all Kayo Minis of the F1®, and Fox Sports-produced magazine shows including AFL 360, NRL 360, Sunday Night with Matty Johns, Bounce, and The Back Page, among others.

Who knows if Binge will survive.

Unfortunately Fox Sports (at present) don't care about the world game.

I actually have a very very funny feeling that Foxtel will provide it's own production, commentators and graphics, on Friday nights, and every other channel 7 game for that matter.

Time will tell.

I've been watching the 4k games on kayo (diagnostics showing 3840x2160) and I seriously can't tell the difference from the usual HD. Am I missing something? TV is 4k.

All depends on screen res plus how much of your field of vision is taken up by the screen. If it's HD and you sit far enough away it won't matter. If its huge and you are close to it, you would.

4K is gonna matter when your screen is big and it is taking up a lot of your field of vision.

I was on the club deal. I agree the only time we watch Kayo for football was when it was not on 7. During the year I did upgrade my google chrome modem  which improved things but still not a match for quality of  7. It is interesting that if you watched a replay of the game it was great.
