Xavier Lindsay. Captain of Gippsland. Think Josh Kelly style.  Class and skill and footy IQ.  He is as good as any of the top 5 players.   Can hit a target or kick it 50+. Good on the tackle.   He’s one player that I am sure JT would be marking in bold and highlighting.

Patrick Retschko.  Think Hugh McCluggage style. He plays half back or midfield and has excellent decision making and skills.  Can play defensive role as well. See AFL quality in his style.

Archer Day-Wicks. Takes the game on and likes to run.  Saw him take good aerial contest to make him more dangerous across half forward.  Excellent skills, quality left footer and kicks a nice goal.

Keighton Matofai-Forbes. Captain of Western Jets.  Plays like Mitchito Owens.   Forward utility with an aggressive style of play.  Left footer with booming kick and determined at the contest.

whilst I think we might look at taller players like Noah Mraz or Kayle Gerryn as other draft options.

So Ben Camporeale makes All Australian but two “experts” don’t place him in their top 30 players. On another thread he’s been called the star player from SA. Something doesn’t add up.

Described on Gettable as a super depth draft. Top picks not as good as last years but players going in 20's last year would go in 40's this year.

Expect clubs to be trying to trade future picks to get extra picks in this draft.

I expect we may put our 2025 1st rounder on the table.

i wonder when was the last year we DIDN'T put a future 1st on the trade table

if they open up future years to trade out of then i think we'll be one of those clubs that is always looking to shift around

so far - so far! - we haven't been burned by it, unlike the filth

Why? Every year a number of under-18 AA's don't even get drafted, let alone go in the top 30.

Also South Australia have a pretty weak group this year and only won one game in the carnival.

I agree. I think he’s a very good player and would be drafted around pick 15-20 if available.   Maybe the Blues are watering down the expectations and the points they will need to use.

Agree. I think Dees will

a) try to use the two third round picks in a package points type deal to push up and get another pick in the 2nd round.

b) trade out the 2025 future 1st round to get a 2024 first round. Maybe with the Suns who have a few picks to attract.  Aim is to look to get access to 2 x high quality mids such as Lindsay and Moraes.

There will be plenty of options to trade up or into this year’s draft I think.
the Suns currently have picks 8,9, 20 & 28 and will be open to offers.
The Lions will want to split pick 15 but will need picks in this year’s draft in return.
Freo have 3 first rounders this year and are hoping to trade for Chad Warner next year so you would think they would be open to moving one or two picks into nexts years drafts.
Even if we don’t get involved directly for these picks there will be a lot of other picks being split as a result.
Example let’s say Suns trade pick 9 and get a late first round pick this year as part of the deal- they would probably split that later pick as well.

I don’t think we did a great job in trading picks last year but clubs will probably look at us as a club in decline and be more open to trading with us this year so hopefully we can do better.

Apparently Harry Armstrong is a one to watch for in KPF stocks. Expect him to rise up the rankings. Great pair of hands.

Also Trainor will likely go in the top 5 and is set to be a superstar KPD.

Ben Camporeale was SA MVP and agreed he was impressive through the championship.  Top 30 absolutely. Top 20 yes. Probably rank him 12-15 imv.  Blues getting to smokescreen him down the order?

Fair effort from this lad who played for Richmond’s VFL team yesterday. Whichever club recruits him will have a player on their hands.

Captain of the All Australian team too!

Thanks. He has Lindsay much higher than others. Also has Langford much lower. Very even pool is making for some very different ratings.

Yes interesting to see Langford at 18, Travaglia at 21 and Moraes at 27 … all would be welcome to be in red and blue for 2025.

Reid and Retchsko at school together. Get em both. Patty has been a state 100m runner so brings good speed.

Murph is elite time and space, aka Robert Harvey, rarely tackled in under age footy. Gun.

Clearly was best on ground and has improved this year with his running to become an excellent mid who can kick goals as well.  I believe on the grapevine that Brighton v Haileybury was a cracker of a game too

@1964nowMORE  agreed. I think Retschko could be the steal of the draft in the 40s. I hope he would be highlighted on JTs list.

I’m REALLY hoping we have a first round pick to use in this draft!

It's a tough one, because if JT has access to a top 10 pick in a midfielders draft, you'd expect we'll nail a gun.

Problem is would we prefer to guarantee a gun by trading in a Houston for that pick.

Obviously get less years out of Houston, but if Clarry and Trac are themselves next year, we need someone that will immediately make us better.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
