Set my IQ4 to record the replay of yesterday's match. Listed as starting at 2.55 am. Sat down this morning to watch (and enjoy) but no, the replay ran out midway through third quarter.

What is going on? It seems that Foxtel cannot control their times and allow the post match shows to go way past their alloted times so that by the time they get to our replay start time, they are still showing garbage.

So I look for another replay to record - guess what, there is no other time this week only multiple minis and replays of Mike Sheahan and silly footy panel shows. What a disgusting service by Foxtel.  I know I should add 30 minutes minimum to recording replays but why should I waste my memory just because they can't manage their shows.

Is there any other source to record the full replay?

Switch to Kayo, you can watch the replay whenever you want and don't have to record it yourself.

Kayo costs more money - if not for ad free footy and cricket, Foxtel would not be worth it.

Kayo is a lot cheaper than Foxtel. If you mostly want the sport I suggest ditch Foxtel and go with Kayo.

If you click on Sport and go to AFL, then scroll all the way down to teams you can pick Melbourne and watch any replay from this year.

Jiust add the 30 minutes for ANY sports as they often go into the next program.   It is not a waste of memory, you simply delete after watching it anyway most times. If you want to continue to pull your hair out missing end of sporting events don't add it :P

Simples!

I finally switched to Kayo this year, was piggy backing off the folks IQ for a bit but they got the new IQ4 box which I really can't be bothered getting my head around so I stuffed it.

Do it, it's better.

Kayo + Binge = Foxtel at less than half the price. The only downside is the streaming options are only in Full HD where Foxtel is up to 4K for some shows. Only a matter of time until they ditch the ancient satellite broadcasting setup and go full terrestrial at the same quality.

Can’t you just go to the AFL section under the Sport tab and stream the replay from there? That’s what I’m doing as I type this.

Hopefully Kayo gets 4K sometime soon

Thanks but I also use Foxtel for other viewing such as news, other sports, streaming movies and tv shows and some classic car shows. Too hard to give up so I will just add 30 minutes from now on but with he weagles replay it would have needed 60 minutes.

With the Brisbane game you would have needed even more extra time, or else you would have missed the best bit!

Watching the replay off the "AFL live" app, now. I can cast it to the TV (the web site doesn't allow casting).

They put it on under 24 hrs from the end of the game.

[Too cold and wet for me to head to pub viewing yesterday. Plus, I don't particularly like being around people on their drug (alcohol), I usually end up being the mate of the inebriated, who doesn't give me space or continues to want my time during play. Then there is the grog bravado's, who fill the place with noise and energy, ok if you are one of them. Ostracised, and bored if not on that "high" and building level. Sometimes no alternatives.]

Single person household, so the subscriptions to stream or package,  a bit too costly for me living within my financial means.

The app replays all the games.

Yes, It's just a Matter of time before Satellite TV is gone.

You can even purchase "cable" channels individually with YouTube TV (at least in the US).

I think it’ll become a point of differentiation or playing catch-up once ch 7 get streaming rights from next year. If they stream in 4K it’ll force Kayos hand.

Is it just me or is streaming still not quite a 100% alternative to aerial? We're still at the mercy of this country's average internet aren't we?

Not anymore with 5G.

Your probably right, would that be the case with NBN too? Wish they could fix the few seconds delay.

My NBN is working fine. Got 100 Mbps speed, which is very good for 4K streaming. Regarding the delay, I am not IT expert but I believe it is more related to latency.

Latency can't be fixed simply with higher speeds. It's more about the cloud/network architecture (of your ISP and the broadcaster).

Is it something that the course of time everything can adjust to? I'd just be hoping that it's always improving.

to stream live sports in 4k you only need a speed of around 15mbs which most people have.

The issue with live sports is because it's live you don't get the benefit of buffering that you get on non live tv.

Most times the speed variation is simply something within your house or neighbourhood causing a momentary lull. On non live TV you never notice it because they have buffered 2-5 minutes onto your stream.

I have FFTP NBN and an Orbi Mesh....... never a problem

Oh ok so delay is usually always a buffering thing?

Let's say the stream was perfectly 'live' it would be essentially like a satellite broadcast (until buffering kicks in)?

would you accept 5, 10 or 15 minute delay in return for say 8k quality... it's all about trade offs

Personally I'd be ok with the delay

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
