Where would you have them?

Dogs have an excellent inside mid rotation even without Dunkley. I'd have them second after us. The wings or lack thereof is problematic but the core of their midfield is still excellent.

GWS have what should be one of the better starting trios in the league, with Green, Kelly & Cogs. Finn Callaghan & Lachie Whitfield as wing options too.

I'd have Dogs #2 & GWS ahead of several teams listed above them on that list.

Alas the game is played on grass & not paper....!

These articles are subjective and based on lasts years stats and trades.

Giants have / had a lot of talent but always fail to deliver.

Hunter and Dunkley are two massive outs for the dogs, yes they still have Bont, Libba, Macrae and Treloar but losing talent has to hurt.

Cats are another year older, Danger is 32, Gutherie isn’t a gun.

Interesting season ahead, only 5/6 clubs with a real chance.

My top 4 would be Melbourne, Carlton , Brisbane and Dogs.

Richmond ranked at 5 is ridiculous as I would even have the filth ranked above them.

He'd be, arguably, in the top half dozen players at Melbourne IMHO.

There’s no arguably about it, no chance, wouldn’t even be top 10.

Not sure about top half dozen...but Guthrie is a jet. Balanced & skilled, would compliment us really well actually!

Regardless of where you rate Gutherie, we have arguably the no.1 midfield in comp, we’ve had the no.1 ranked defence over the last 2 seasons. We finished the H & A season last year 2nd after playing some ordinary predictable football in the back half of the season, along with a few injuries. An argument could be made for our depth compared to other top 4 hopefuls. Barring major injuries to a number of players there are simply no excuses this season, none. Top 2 finish is a must.

If you just go by the center bounce starting four, you could reasonably argue that...

Gawn, Oliver, Viney, Harmes

and

Grundy, Petracca, Brayshaw, Pickett

...would both be in the top 10. Neither would be first, but both sets would compete with any other team at a bounce.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
