Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

"...they just pump it long into the forward line and funnily enough that is how you win games..."

i spose the reason we havnt had success doing this is because we havnt had a forward line! they've all been injured...

There was a hint of frustration in his voice when he said it.

Yep, I thought there was. Thats all we need, the players to not agree with the coach on the style of play. Hopefully Neale employs our best tactic on Sunday, and that is kicking it long to Neitz so that Pickett, Davey, Dunn etc have a chance.

You've hit the nail on the head Bizkit with this revolutionary and stunningly original analysis without any personal agenda whatsoever.

Melbourne have clearly been flooding and playing negative football the whole season and that is why we're 0-5. No more, no less.

There isn't really any point in having a coach because the solution is so simple - kick it long to the forwardline contests and give Clint Bizzell his rightful starting 18 position and cannonisation with it.

That is the way for MFC to stride purposefully into the future with progressive solutions like the original ones you offer up.

Bravo.

It's just what Russell Robertson said.

If you have an issue with what he said, go talk to him.

You're not STILL on that are you?

deanox said that Melbourne hasn't had a forward line to kick it to because they have all been injured. And in recent weeks that has been true. But I was just pointing out that even before Neitz and Robbo were injured, Melbourne had this problem.

bibelieve our forward line was dysfunctional to the point of non-existance in the saints game. miller was struggled with only 1 mark. aaron davey our livewire crumber had only 9 possies and no goals. in fact neitz and robbo, our key forwards kicked 3 each so they weren't the issue. kicking long to a player or a contest is good. bombing blindly in an up and under swirler of a kick isnt effective, and chance are it will just come back over your head. Brad Green, Jeff White and Cameron Bruce were our only other 3 goal kickers that day. it sounds like the midfield went missing. when your key forwards each kick 3 goals you would hope you can get at least 5 or 6 more from the midfield.

i think this is a more complex issue than simple saying, play forwards and kick it long.

Stop Press:

One-trick contested marking forward with questionable defensive skills says kick it long to a contest.

Favourite pastimes:

1. counting my MOTY nominations

2. checking the brand of opposition player's boots from prone position as they run the ball out of defence.

He never said anything about kicking the ball to a contest...

old55, do agree with Robertson's statement that kicking it long to the forward line "is how you win games"?

I think the way to win games is stop pretending they are West Coast all the handballing is getting nowhere and kick the damn ball. I am sick of sitting at games where the MFC supporters scream the whole time "Kick it!" (this includes me). Over use of the ball leads to errors from our younger charges. But I agree with Robbo long kicking wouldnt hurt

That has been what's happened.

I dont know why you are asking Old to answer that question.

He has answered this clearly in the past when you have parroted on and on and on...... about the same thing.

You are extremely slow if at all on the uptake.

If you had a base level of gumption (open issue) you would see from Old's post that you be careful about adopting anything that Robbo says. He has history of operating his mouth in the media without contacting his brain. Wait.....I see your conection.

You dont want to listen to any other poster or discuss a view besides pushing your tedious and repeatedly discredited views.

I know exactly why I asked old55 that question.

Because as soon as someone (Russell Robertson) with far more football knowledge than he says something which I (and others) have been advocating for a couple of years now, he tries to dodge the issue by having a go at Robertson.

Are Robbo's views "discredited"?

robbo was the only funny person on the bench. he and goose talking during sams mailbag and his comment about paris hilton haha. But he had no idea what 2 talk about when it came to the teams

You guys are kidding if you think Robbo's pointed comment was not a thinly disguised hint at our own game plan issues.

Stop press!

Key forward demands ball get delivered before 6 defenders drop back and clog up the space!

So you think that Robbo has got it wrong when he says it "is how you win games"?

That's definitely one way.

You must have stats that show WC and Sydney kick the ball long more than other teams - keen to see them ...

Why do you always feel the need to make personal comments about the people you're arguing with? You do it all the time, CB is just debating the issues but you come in and start with completely unnecessary personal attacks.

The saddest thing is that you're a mod, but you're intelligent enough and you write well enough without having to resort to this crap.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
